You're dead right of course Phil. On rechecking, my wording about concerns stated after the accident at Barnes was confusing. OP has been ammended accordingly.

There's a few contenders for that prize!
The suggestion of the Skye Bogies got me thinking, there's loads if interesting pre group designs that would be suitable on preserved lines. I think this has been mentioned before but they could be built more cheaply & be just as useful as more modern designs.

Nice picture. Preservation would certainly not be worse off with something like that running around. :)

If anybody would like to build one in time for the November Caley Reunion, we'd certainly be grateful up here....

5ft 6ins drivers (so NR 60mph capable...), 19" bore x 26" stroke cylinders, 175psi, 23,300lb tractive effort... no superheater... wonder if you could do a revised version with a welded 200+psi superheated boiler within the original dimensions?

I would honestly pay to see a new A2/3, if announced. Perhaps the name "Harzand" could be used?

Another Peppercorn A2 (Sun Chariot, Sayajirao or Tudor Minstrel would get my vote) would surely be preferable to the earlier deeply-flawed Thompson variants?

Oh, those oddball LNER loco names ...... "Harzand"? Entymology, please. It sounds like a warning you'd see on a yellow triangle.

    Winner of 2016 Derby.

I would like to see a return to locos being named after racehorses and birds.

Thankfully, Betty Swollocks never won a classic.

What happened to Salmon Trout's boiler? Groups have started with less.

It's currently in use on 4472 as I believe it's an original A3 boiler. The other boiler being an A4 boiler, that the N.R.M. sold to Jeremy Hoskin for use as spare for 4464 Bittern.

I think FS was taken out of service in 1963 with an A3 type 94 boiler. If Salmon Trout's boiler was a spare A3 type 94 boiler, what happened to the second one? Or was Salmon Trout's boiler the A4 type 107 boiler...

One of our 'working' members in the Advanced Steam Traction Trust has worked up a design for a 'universal' 2-6-0 or 2-6-2T which could be batch produced and then 'dressed-up' to look like any number of different company locos. Okay, it might need an inside cylinder version if you want to go back pre-grouping, but you get the idea. It would be low-maintenance, high(er) efficiency and ideal for heritage lines.

Where has this nonsense about Salmon Trout's boiler come from? The boiler on Scotsman is its own, with much rebuilding done. It was one or two cylinders that came from Salmon Trout.
