My wife and I took the free heritage bus ride to Lynmouth today and I had forgotten how "different" they are from modern buses. The old girl went up and down the hills of exmoor taking all in her stride. I hope I amd as good when I am 70 years old

Though I was relieved not to have to follow one down Porlock Hill yesterday!

I'd rather not follow one up Porlock Hill!

It took the tool road. Never been up the toll road before it is a great view on the way up.

Well worth a drive up the toll road. There are some good view points and walks. Also try the Worthy Toll Road from Porlock.

That might be one (not very polite) way to describe either the drivers or passengers.

    I prefer the TOLL road.:Wacky:

The one I saw went down Porlock Hill proper, and was kind enough to let me pass before the hill proper. The views from the Toll Road are superb, but it’s not as challenging a drive.

It's worth remembering that it is vehicles like this and their immediate predecessors, which "saw off" rural rail passenger services. Long before the era of air suspension and automatic transmissions.

I have always wondered about a ‘Titfield Thunderbolt’ weekend, complete with ‘Lion’, a 14xx, coach body on a well Wagon, Traction engine - loco tug of war and a ‘Pearce and Co’ parallel bus service.

I appreciate that ‘Lion’ is now stuffed and mounted in Liverpool but the rest might be fun.

    Volunteers for the various parts?

The fact that you can see Minehead goods yard from Dunster goods yard didnt help either once reliable lorries became available, an even worse situation occurred around Radstock/Midsomer Norton

The wife would be perfect for the parallel bus service.

Yes, it appears to be closed (again!) - the local rumour being that the couple running it have split up.
