The SSN (Stoom Stichting Nederland) based at Rotterdam have just announced their annual international outing. It will take place on October 19th - 21st and will go from (Gouda-) Rotterdam to Venlo and down along the Rhine to Koblenz. On the way it will stop at Brohl for a trip on the narrow gauge Vulkan Express. Dinner will be served at the Brohltalbahn, and the overnight stay will be at a hotel in Koblenz.
The second day involves a steam hauled trip on to Mainz, with an afternoon boat trip back down the Rhine with dinner on board. Overnight at Koblenz again.
The third day is the steam hauled return to Rotterdam, but along the other bank of the river.

Traction is entirely by the 1940 built three cylinder pacific 01.1075:

The cost of the trip is EUR540 if sharing or EUR610 if in a single room.

To get round their Dutch speaking booking site they are happy to take direct enquiries, in English, by email to: pr (at) stoomstichting.nl.

    Ask two stupid questions, but:

    1. Is that hauling freight at the back?
    2. Is the Mitropa coach a support coach?

The picture is just to show you 01.1075, it was taken several years ago.

The Mitropa is a restaurant car, the support coach is a German Bm. In the near future it is intended to swap the East German Mitropa for a West German Kakadu.
The K1As will be part of the excursion train.
I don't remember what the containers were about.

As 01 1075 is an oil-burner IIRC then presumably the rear 2 wagons will contain supplies of bitumen.

Sorry, what's a Kakadu? It sounds like a one hit wonder.

You can see a picture of one here:
    https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speisewagen#/media/File:Kakadu_BLO.jpg

It's one of a series of restaurant cars built in 1966 that include a first class compartment. The two tone colour scheme led to the nickname 'Kakadu', a type of parrot in German.

The advantage for the SSN of this vehicle is its greater seating, and bogies for which they have drawings. It won't be on the Koblenz trip though as it needs an overhaul first. The Mitropa will eventually be retired, possibly sold.
