It has been closed for quite a while, still people turning up with booked rooms to find it shut!
There was a couple from Germany wandering around the place the other day, when I pulled up they came over and asked about the pub, to say they were unhappy when I told them it was shut is a undersatement, I felt very sorry for them and pointed them in the direction of The White Horse/Valiant.

That is some time ago. Are there any working replicas around of locos of a similar age that could be hired in?

Your best bet visually might be Furness Railway No. 20 - http://www.furnessrailwaytrust.org.uk/fr20story.htm

Although it doesn't help for a potential event on the WSR, FR20 hasn't been withdrawn yet. It's in use at Ribble Railway over the Bank Holiday weekend for their Teddy Bear weekend (info from Ribble's Facebook page), then it is withdrawn for overhaul.

Given how new most of the loco is, is this likely to be a lengthy process?

West Somerset Railway Classic Car Run – Sunday 3 June 2018

This is now a little over two weeks away and we have 60 wonderful classics booked to come on the run. Every decade from the 20’s to the 80’s is represented and a wonderful range of sports and saloon models, with everything from Morris minors to Lordly Jaguars.

The route has been checked and instructions will be sent out to participants next week, but there are still around 20 spaces available if you own a pre-1980 classic and you would like to come on the run. Full details including an entry form can be found by following the link below.

This is a great spectacle. The cars gather at Bishops Lydeard from 9.30 and set off from 11:00 following a 35 mile route which takes them past most WSR stations, arriving at Minehead station from around 12;30 where most park up for the afternoon. You can even watch them assemble at Bishops Lydeard, catch the 9:30, 10:15 or 11:15 deparures to get ahead of them to see them pass your favourite WSR station and then get a later train on to Minehead.

Do share this post to anyone who may be interested.

We weren’t ‘hit’ anywheee near as badly as other railways have been recently. Around 6 windows smashed or cracked and one coach only OOS for repairs. But still a nasty shock for train and C&W staff.

Now, where did I put that piano wire....?

Aarrgghh!! Is there any CCTV there? If not, maybe time to put it in - IIRC, that helped in another recent instance.

It would probably not be right to comment publicly on what security measures there presently are.

He had better be careful. I was told these were more dangerous to their crews than enemy action.

Actually, I meant that more in the sense of 'is there any information which would help track down the offender(s)'?

But to your point, I somehow I doubt the kind of mindless loser who does this sort of thing reads NatPres... and also, of course, should the person(s) who did this be identified and charged, then if they don't plead guilty, but prefer to proceed to trial, I would assume that a competent barrister appearing for the defence would enquire quite carefully into what evidence there was that implicated their client(s), and how it was obtained. So if the people responsible are brought to book, this is all going to come out anyway. Although now that I think about it, their solicitor would probably ask the same sort of questions before the plead/trial decision was made, and that might not come out in public.
