SVR Spring Diesel Festival + Mixed Traction Day 17th-20th May 2018

Something I think that was first bought up about 20 odd years ago and was given a firm 'No' at the time.

 

The firm answer is still no. The issue with last years hired in stock was the general condition of the coaches.
There is a case to be had for maybe a couple less diesels to reduce loadings and possibly hire in air brake stock. The problem with hiring in air brake stock is it has to be available in the first place.

Certainly couldn't please the gentleman yesterday who had a complete meltdown when the pair of 20's metamorphosised into 50049! Apparently the 20's was all he had come for and the 50 ruined his entire day.
However, back on planet Earth, this was a fabulous event which to me provided wall to wall entertainment from 8am to 10pm. I wish to extend my thanks to all who organised it, it really is one of the best galas out there.

Some great locos present and plenty of full on thrash & 50049's full on assault of Eardington was one of the stand out performance of the day! Shame someone bailed early to go home and missed it..

without wanting to sound contentious, is there something I'm missing in terms of blissful excitement causing the arm wheeling from the carriage windows? I don't recall this from my younger days.

 

Thanks for posting, some great footage especially on Eardington - the crews were clearly enjoying themselves as much as the passengers !

 

A select few images from a great SVR diesel gala. For me personally these have become the premier event on the SVR, the steam gala's not having the excitement or intense running that this event now produces. Congratulations to Jonathan Dunster, Matt Robinson, Dave Mogg and the many other volunteers who made this event such a success again.
