    Hi,

I'm new here. Unsure if this is allowed or not. However I am selling something which I am told is very rare and I would like it to go to a good home. I'm told they are so rare due to them all having been melted down during WW1 and WW2. Would be a fantastic addition to any collection or private railway station.
If anyone is interested or looking for a Nestle Chocolate 1D Old Penny - Railway Station Vending Machine - Red wall mounted - which dates from the WW1 Era, I have just listed one on Ebay. It requires restoration.

    Item number - 222955388043

    Thanks

    Sarah.

I wonder why vendors think putting crass comments such as "It would be a great addition to any collection" helps the sales pitch? It makes them sound like snake oil salesmen.

With all due respect to the seller, I suspect that most heritage railways have better, and more important, things to spend £650 +£15 postage on.

Is this the same type of machine which the GCR (I think it was) made a replica out of MDF, and which was subsequently pinched?

The GCR one appeared to be a larger machine than this one, having just had a look at the photo in the relevant GCR magazine from 2015.

  7. It probably ended up on eBay. "Very rare... Would be a fantastic addition to..." :)

The OP has something to sell so has placed it on eBay. Nothing wrong so far. She would prefer it to go to a good home, so she mentions it here. That seems fair enough to me, even if strictly it might count as "advertising". I would personally prefer to see this machine on a wall on a preserved (or reconstructed) railway station rather than some milk churns and a pile of worn out cabin trunks on the platform.
    Edit: corrected a typo.

If I were the OP I would now be upset with the negative comments received, is it any wonder that rail enthusiasts often get such a bad press.

Why does the original post not breach forum rule 7.4 (last bullet point)?

Perhaps you should consider rule 6.3 first and just report the problem.

:) Indeed, but it is a genuine question. The rule states "[contributions must not] Contain any advertising or promote any services or web links to other sites." Now this rule is not only confusing grammatically but potentially problematic as there are of course many posts which include links, most of which are in furtherance of discussion, but apart from plugs for items on ebay, some are "advertising" when they are links to appeals for funds for projects (and in some cases these appear in contributors' signatures) and perhaps could be considered in a different league from advertising for personal gain. Perhaps @Conrad Windham could clarify what the rule is intended to cover?

There is in fact an opportunity to develop the Railwayana section, as the hobby's magazine is about to cease publication. It would in any case be better to separate the topic into two fora: one for discussion, and one for advertising items for sale.
