This may seem an odd request, but is anyone aware of an ex GER closed van that may be surplus to requirements on any preserved line?

Several finished their days at various British Sugar factories (ie Cantley) and were then obtained by a number of sites in the late 1970's/early 1980's, but I am aware of a move to obtain one, if possible, for a Museum (which would be fully restored and kept under cover).

They are following leads to one potential vehicle, but in case this comes to nothing (others have tried, and failed...) are there any others out there that might be available.....?

Must be an ex Great Eastern example though.........

Have you tried Snape Maltings, there is the mortal remains of a GER van in the old yard, no sure how much would be recoverable though.

Believe that is the one they are initially trying for, but the contact/owner seems to be in Australia!

I hope someone takes this on as it is a unique vehicle (converted from a diag O22 Siphon for departmental use). All other diag O22 Siphons were scrapped by the early 60's.

Because it has no revenue earning potential, no one seems interested .

Unfortunately the Swindon and Cricklade Railway want it removed. Unless it’s bought by a member then they may let it stay.

It seems a shame because for example the nnr uses such vehicles for carrying bikes, so they can become revenue earning vehicles, but I guess a lot depends on the railway and the type of passengers it gets.

A friend of mine collects such vehicles . Once restored they see regular use as Buggy carriers on Childrens days , Santa presents , and the set for Footplate XP's

Another popular use of vans is as storage - quite popular with loco owning groups, an an alternative to an ugly shipping container or similar if the host railway has some siding space.

In the absence of cattle trucks (meaning actual cattle trucks, not modern high capacity MU's) they'd be jolly useful for keeping rowdy sprogs out of everyone's hair too.

Please don't go getting the wrong idea, I love children ..... I just couldn't eat a whole one.
