I think it's an optical illusion caused by the reflection of the cloud formation at that time.

    It looks very shiny :)

    Nice image

I do think (from some other photos from the day too) around the lower middle lamp iron it does look a bit of a funny shape.

Looks bashed above the right front buffer to me - maybe someone has swung round too fast while holding a fire iron or similar?

Trick of the light? There's a video on yewtoob of Saturday's activities on the ELR with a couple of close ups close up of 60009. Doesn't appear to be any damage in those shots.....unless there was an ooops moment after the video was made.

I journeyed all the way from County Durham to East Lancs on Sunday just to see Union in action. Engine ran very well - no damage seen on engine. Yet again a credit to Team Riley for the work done.

I wrote a letter which was published in Bluebell News suggesting that it would be rather good if the Bluebell could bring in 60009 for the Giants of Steam this year, as it would be the last such opportunity. Unsurprisingly, having only just read this, there is currently a big smile on my face!

How "kind" of them to clash with the Swanage Gala. Whilst both are in the south I suspect the distance between the two may well prevent a lot of those from further north attending both, maybe to the detriment of both. But hopefully not.

At least it doesn't clash with the MHR Gala. Maybe the same locos?

An informative post. I felt sure there was more to this than a big new shed to house two steam locomotives. Hopefully, with planning approval, they will be kept in a safe, dry place - no linear scrapyard home - and will be able to be seen as much as those static items in the NRM and other museums.
Pleasing to see them running I guess, but it is always so easy to spend other folks money. ;)

There was someone who joined RMWeb, only a few days ago, who immediately went into a rant about Mr Cameron and his locomotives. Said poster was well taken to task there too, and, funnily enough, has failed to reappear...

Whatever opinion you hold they should be expressed unfailingly in a polite, respectful and factually based manner - something @BrightonBaltic has singularly failed to acheive on any front.
Since the announcement was made the debate has been had and it's pointless reheating it now, Mr Cameron has made the decision he was entitled to make. Personally I'm indifferent to what he chooses for the A4, he has looked after it so well for so long I can totally respect any choice he makes without the slightest sadness.
As for the K4, that creates more regret for me simply because of its uniqueness and the undoubted appeal it would have for other equally respectable custodians that would provide for a working future, just as Mr C did in the early part of this century. Again, I respect the right of choice even if I wish it were a different one being made.

In fairness I love the design of the building and I think we’d all prefer them undercover than outside.

Still lamenting their passing. But perhaps the future isn’t so set.

Those two locos have worked on the main line for years and they will be safe for the foreseeable future. Those are both major positives.

Do we know the terms of the Trust? Does it require them to remain out of service for ever or does it leave open a possibility of restoration to running condition eventually?
