A more detailed look at the scramble to save equipment can be found on this Facebook Page (which anyone can look at...)

Looking from a distance, the whole saga seems to be a combination of suspect local Politics and bad Museum management. I did visit the place a few years back and, whilst they had some nicely restored exhibits with work under way on a few other significant projects, a lot of it certainly gave the impression of the "linear scrapyard" so beloved of some members on here..........

At least a significant proportion of the collection does seem to be being saved, even if it ends up scattered across various Mid-Western US museum properies (and some further afield)

It's not very far (by American standards) to the excellent Illinois Railway (sic) Museum near Chicago, so that would seem an appropriate destination for some of the stock.

If you have been to the IRM at Union, you will know they do already have rather a large fleet of vehicles to contend with..........

I think their main aim is to get the items which are not under cover (ie a lot of their steam locos), not to mention the current project of a replica "Main Street" to act as a public entrance to the site, so something like the ITM collapse/sale would only be of interest if there were particular items that would fit in with their collection (and, presumably Collecting Policy). From the Spreadsheet on the AOTTORCH site, the IRM appear to have obtained one North Shore Interurban car from the ITM colection at Noblesville, plus, I've seen a blog post elsewhere that indicates they have obtained some spare parts from some of the scrapped Chicago El cars.

From what has been scrapped, prior to the local Sheriff locking the gates at 24.00 last night, the 1912 built electric loco is the biggest loss, followed by the cosmetically restored MILW diesel switcher.
