Flying Scotsman in Devon and Cornwall with Steam Dreams

Have known about this for months, but have been given the green light to publish details now. Flying Scotsman is going to make a foray into Devon and Cornwall in October with a number of trips. All on sale now.

Thursday 4 October Theale & Newbury to Taunton (return by diesel)

Thursday 4 October Taunton to Plymouth (return by diesel) - Double-headed with Mayflower.

Saturday 6 October Plymouth to Penzance (return by diesel)

Monday 8 October Plymouth to Exeter (return by diesel)

Monday 8 October Exeter to Bristol (return by diesel) - Double-headed with Mayflower.

I've asked what the diesel on the rear situation will be and will update the thread when I hear back from SD. Have also asked about doing Plymouth - Bristol - Exeter on the 8th and how much that would cost.

 

Also with 61306 double-headed on return over the Devon banks.

 

How can the return working be by diesel when the coaches go onwards to Plymouth?

Have updated my OP, but the press release doesn't mention about double-heading over the Devon Banks on 8 October; it only mentions it for the 4 October trip and the Exeter - Bristol trip on 8 October. I'd imagine the two locos would double-head from Plymouth, given that'll make more sense than a LE move from Plymouth to Exeter, but I will double-check in due course.

 

Is the return on a service train? Confused how the return of one tour is diesel yet another tour with steam goes the other way.

 

Based on the timings on the steam dreams web site I would guess that once the train had completed the first tour, it would run empty back to the starting point of the second tour.

 

Thats going to make a GREAT trip..

 

Diesel on the rear is a great idea don't want the Flying Scotsman sitting down on the Cornish mainline.

 

I have noticed that,why are you trying to make out I'm having a go at a respected company ?
still not a bad idea to have insurance, better to be safe then sorry, or at least have the diesel follow behind,

 

If I'm getting this right it's going take 2 days and cost £317 to 'do' steam from Theale to Penzance. OK there's the cost of a second locomotive as there's a double header over the banks; which is a bit of a cop out to me. But hell's bells that's expensive when we did PAD-PNZ behind Tornado in one day on 29th May 2017 for £139.

 

Very hypicricitial that this is the so called "Nations engine" We all paid towards it like it or not and we are priced out of it like this,Its okay once the hype dies off they will come running backm

 

Does't exactly seem like good value for money when you can get a full day out and alot more mileage with another Tour operator then £119pp for ply to pnz and back.
So they took money from everyone towards an over running, over priced overhaul then price 99.5% of the population out of travelling with it.

There's making your money back then theres making it back and taking the rise out of the country...

 

Just give up...everyone is on to your silly childish trolling over various threads these past few days!

 

I'm informed that all trains will have a diesel on the back.
