I know it had a diesel behind it, but didn't anyone else go out to see 60009 this morning? I got a couple of shots which are now on Flickr and, if anyone is interested in seeing them, this is the first one in the Photostream:

I had made arrangements to keep today free but didn't bother to make the 80-mile journey as it was so hot. My thoughts are with the footplate crew. However much of a "show pony" 60009 may or may not have been today, the driver, fireman and traction inspector would still have had to spend hours in what must have been an unbelievably hot environment.

Work got in the way of me seeing her this morning but as she is due to become a non-steaming museum piece, I did track her down this evening

Shots at Mottisfont & Dunbridge, where a welcome shower started just as she hit the level crossing and at Monks' Bridge, Farnborough (as the light was fading so high ISO)

My shots at Fleet are a bit grainy, but I put them on Flickr anyway. There are three, and this is the first one in the Photostream:

I hope my comment didn't come across as negative. I would have popped over to see it had it only been a couple of miles away.

Are we sure there is enough motive power on this train? I guess an A4 and TWO class 47s should be enough

Actually the maroon Class 47 blends in well with the coaches so it doesn't look too bad. Looks like 47580 at the back which stands out a bit more!

You can never have too much power ;)
As for the inside 47, I did notice at the weekend that West Coast's muddy burgundy loco colour on 47760 does make it almost look like a parcels van in front of the carriages

Yeah I knew the light would go and result in grainy images but still worth having the record. I did almost join you at Southwood in the morning, but decided that working from an air conditioned office might beat working from home (and popping out to see some steam)

No, not at all. I wouldn't have made an eighty mile journey. I'm lucky that I don't have far to go.

Once 60009 gets incarcerated in a Scottish museum we won't get any pictures - grainy or otherwise. So best to make the most of it while we can.
