If there *was* a cutting that deep in Boston, Lincs, it would probably be that wet 365 days a year!

And there is the equally misguided group who think they know better than the people who are in the business of running steam/diesel charters.

Steam buffs might be pleased to note that we are, at last, getting heavier rains over the South West, which we will pass on to the rest of you. :D That should end the 'steam ban'. However, photographers might not be happy.

Depends which sort of photographers you mean. If you like a standard view of the train under uniform consistent light, no, you probably won't like rain much. If you like being challenged to produce pictures with more atmosphere, contrast and the chance of unique lighting effects you might welcome a little meteorological variety.

In my experience it tends to be the other way round - rainy weather tends to have more consistent and uniform light with much lower contrast than full sun. I also find wet surfaces can often have much deeper, richer colour than dry ones.

Don't worry folks, there's a Bank Holiday a fortnights' time in England/Wales on the 27th of August [the August Bank Holiday in Scotland is at the beginning of August]. So from this Monday [13th] it'll start drizzling for a week. The next Monday [20th] week it'll be light to medium rain. Then thunder and lightning on the Bank Holiday Monday itself and full on torrential rain the rest of that week washing the Country away..........:Saywhat::Arghh::Hissyfit::rolleyes::Chillout:.

In which case we could have a beautiful September followed by an Indian summer when the air temperature is far more tolerable. ;)
