Seeing as there's a thread for 60009, it would be rude not to have one for the K4? Same idea... your most memorable moment... a photo, video, performance log, story whatever. No mention of the loco's retirement or negativity!

This will be my lasting memory, what I believe was the K4's final ever revenue earning working... 22nd October 2015 on the NYMR. She was failed on arrival at Pickering.

It's a close run thing, it could easily be at Fodderty on the frosty morning of 12th April 2010 starting the climb to Ravens Rock but for me the best memory is of the K4 on the last West Highland photo charter in 2014 at Loch Eilt.
There is nothing in my view to beat seeing an engine at work where it's designer intended and we were truly fortunate with weather for the day.

Seen south of Cumwhinton returning from a brief spell at Fort William in August 1989. As the locomotive was heading south towards Carlisle, news had broke of the death of 3442's owner, Earl of Lindsay; the SVR support crew had attached a wreath for the remainder of the journey back to the SVR. 116-07 3442 Cumwhinton 5 Aug 1989622-Edit-Edit.jpg

It was always the Earl's wish to see 3442 restored and working on the West Highland Line and, although ill, he had the opportunity to ride on the footplate out of Fort William just two weeks before his death. He succeeded Nabarro as SVR Chairman and did a great deal to take the railway forward in the following years.

1989 and the runs that took 3442 to Fort Bill and back. I did the Keighley - Carlisle and Stockport - Hereford legs. A remarkable climb up the Long Drag brought a smile to many faces but for me it was the sound she made climbing Gresford Bank on the final homeward leg that gets my vote.

Think the most remembered moment will be when it gets stuffed and mounted. Let's face it, many are getting very old and at least it won't be scrapped like that Crab

The long term plan is for both 60009 and 61994 to be housed in a Museum sited on John Cameron's land; planning permission is currently being sought and JC will ensure that the locomotives have a (well deserved) retirement rather than be put through future overhauls at great expense but diminishing returns from hire fees.

Gentlemen, the OP said this thread was for our best remembered moments of 61994 and specifically asked for NO debate on her retirement etc.

Apology if at fault but I presume answering a question - with no comment about pro and cons - in response to a genuine query - would not be considered as indulging in debate.

We’re all tempted to answer questions posted by others Fred, even if the thread involved isn’t intended to have questions posted. Anyway, up to the OP if he wants to hand out yellow cards. :)
