Perhaps Danny but sorry an hour plus of wind noise doesn’t float my boat .

What would ya rather I do discontinue entirely filming on-board tours, it's not like the video's over 2 hours long and I did cut it back as much as I could. Besides if I had a camera with a wind microphone id be using it now but I havent got one yet as cant afford it.

Mine either Steve but @RalphW trying to humiliate a guy publicly about the quality of his work seems a pretty low trick.

Like I’ve said before less is more with Linesider being the obvious result wise . Being totally honest I think most folk would rather see lineside shots with great sound as the new rules on window filming kill your sort of filming but that’s my opinion by the way .

When I did the SSE the stewards didnt have a problem with it, All I had out was the video camera (NO Head, NO upper body parts, NO arms) only a fraction of my hand is out which is holding the video camera. I dont even lean against the doors when filming now despite a bolt being in place and the stewards haven't a problem as a result as im well away from the doors. RTC are also not a problem as they trust me when filming (except for one who kicks off at anyone). I am looking at getting another video camera for the 2019 mainline tour season but it including the cost of the dead cat microphone and warranty plus possibly extra batteries is almost if not over £700 which I cant just magically whisk out of thin air.

I didn’t actually say you shouldn’t film out of the drop light etc just that most folk will not watch a video for long especially when you are at the back of the last coach filming with no loco noise that lasts over an hour .Not having a go to be honest as I’ve done the back of the train many a time and looking back it wasn’t brilliant .

If you enjoy it fine, but it does nothing for me at all endless on board, wind or noise or not

Wouldn't the subsequent 'discussion' be better off in the photography thread?

Three quarters of an hour of video of a loco that I like seemed worth the view. But after a minute I skipped quickly to the end. I presume that you enjoyed videoing the journey but minutes of countryside flashing by with semi permanent wind noise just doesn't do it for me. And precious little of BIL as well.

You didn't have to post it but you chose to so you can expect feedback. Definitely not for me.

Sticking a piece of acoustic foam, such as found on a foam microphone cover, over the built in microphone on the camcorder makes a big difference to reducing wind noise .
I use that method on smaller camcorsers and it is very effective

I'll try and look at it but the job is how to attach it to the camera.
