I hope someone has given it some TLC with a paintbrush, to send it to the Great Dorset Steam fair in the condition it was in, with large patches of peeling paint and primer is not a good publicity tool for the MHR .

At least she doesn't look like this anymore!:

The current work worn condition of 73096 may at least entice some folks at the Steam Fair to contribute to her overhaul. No doubt there will be information about her on the MHR stand and/or in the event programme?

Led to believe there’s a new tv program being made about locomotives being road transported around the country.

That, apparently, is not the only loco on a low loader heading to Dorset. I read, elsewhere, that another restoration subject is also headed there.

7027 is currently on her way there.
A friend from work is going to the GDSF. He heard that they are recreating a Railway locomotive workshop with several boilers on show as well as the Castle and 73096.

Had a great day out on the Mid Hants yesterday, my first proper visit. Got my first trip behind one of my favourite classes, the 'Schools' and had a really interesting tour of the workshops with a very knowlegable and affable guide which was a real bonus to the day. Seeing the boilers and fireboxes on the shopfloor and being worked upon sort of brings them to life in the way a picture cannot. And realising that you are no more than about 30 mins from Pompey brings a return visit a certainty:):).

Anyone know what is hauling this "special" to Alton on Friday? Must be Diesel hauled due to the max speed of 95 shown on RTT.

A friend told me yesterday that something special was coming through Aldershot on Friday morning but he had no idea what it will be. I looked on RTT and it says it is being operated by Locomotive Services. This probably explains why the MHR is closed to the Public on Friday. A private hire by Mr Hosking perhaps?

You may say that, I couldn't possibly comment. Very select (and private) corporate do, locos are a couple of 47's I have been told but could be wrong, often am.

Cheers. Must be the two BR green 47's. I will try and get a photo or two of the train somewhere.

From what I understand they only want minimal staff at the railway any operational roles required to be on site will be advised directly. Not sure about people working on restoration projects maybe they need to get in touch with the railway.

No doubt Mr Hosking is making it worthwhile for the railway. Telling people to stay away is one surefire way of making people curious enough to turn up and see what they can see though! :)

Presumably the 9F on MHR metals, the closest it is likely to get to hauling a mainline charter, sadly.
Was it a 60th birthday event, perhaps? Either that or a rehearsal for B-day next March?

    Another thought I just had
, is that this level of privacy and secrecy normally surrounds filming.

Filming adverts for his TOC? Unlikely I know but why would you hire a 10 mile railway and ask people to stay away?

Maybe the invited guest list demanded privacy of that sort or concerns over press intrusion?
