Just wondering - was it really necessary to have 2 x Class 47s on a train like this? I think the load was only 9 coaches (10 once the steam loco's support coach was added). Surely a single 47 would be OK with that? I have noticed that it seems to be the norm these days to have 2 diesel locos on charter trains whereas a steam loco is sometimes let out by itself without a supporting diesel (that's the way we like it of course). Is the second diesel there just for insurance purposes?

In this case, was definitely convenient there was a 2nd 47 for insurance. 47580 failed at Blackwell nr Derby on the return (not sure what with), and the charter from then proceeded south with just 760, eventually getting into Radlett nearly 3 hours late (0330hrs). I had been waiting at BDM for a photo hoping it was just an RTT glitch that the path wasn't updating. An incredibly long day for those on board to say the least.
