Does that just leave 45407 at Fort William?

Is 44871 due to head back up soon?

Think 5407 is still there and isn’t 44871 down to do the two Citadel tours in November with possibly the K1 .

    Many thanks.

Where is 45212 at the moment - UK Steam has it as being at Fort William.

Assume 5212 and 5407 remain at FW for the remainder of the season?
Not sure if the November turns might be 2 black 5s Steve? They're after the Jacobite ends so presumably able to take advantage of the 5s return south.
I heard the K1 is going straight into the works for a heavy general, aiming to have it completed for next year's main Jacobite season.

Circumstantial evidence ?........ The regular WTT entries for this Thursday have been replaced by STP paths suggesting a l/e running.

73082 making its way to the WSR. Shame she can't be on the mainline 'for real'!

I would love to see a BR 5 back on the ML "full time". 73096 was a superb performer during her stint back on the National Network. I am sure 73082 would be just as good as her owners keep her in fantastic condition.

Nice to see a std 5 on the mainline, albeit being towed.

Rare to see a loco being towed alone without some vehicle for brake force, thought she was dead from that video but from another I see she was actually in steam, with an operative whistle!

Is this a sign that finally after who knows how many years it is becoming as economic to move by rail as by road?

I imagine it'll be deemed on a case by case understanding, however previously Ivatt No. 46512 was hauled in the same format (in light steam) from Aviemore to Kingussie a few years ago.

As the class 37 and 73082 are both vacuum braked, there isn't a problem over brake force. The steam loco was in light steam to work the lubricators for the cylinders, otherwise the connecting rods would need to be taken down.
It also depends whether the loco owners are prepared to allow the locomotive to be moved by road. That is a balance between costs and possible risk of damage to the springs and bearings. Over the years at least one pacific and a I think a larger tank loco have suffered damage during loading or unloading from road vehicles.

    Cheers, Neil

And of course the low loader actually broke a few mile out of Swanage, damaging the loco when 6695 was off to a WSR Gala.

5637 was damaged when it was being unloaded at Cranmore in 2004.
    Text taken from 5637 website:

"It was during the loco’s return from the Mid Hants line in September 2004 when being unloaded from a lorry trailer the rear right hand driving wheel dropped about two inches. This does not sound much but unfortunately the axle load at that point is nineteen tons and the shock load shattered the main spring and was transferred into the firebox where around twenty steel stays then sheared off on the steel plate side.

Thankfully the incident was witnessed by East Somerset Railway staff and they were able to claim on the Transport Company’s insurance. The repairs and return to service took nearly six months and cost in the region of £30,000"
