I know it's an old thread, it came up in a search for 7229!
I was in the sheds at The ELR a few weeks ago and saw the loco, it has had some remedial work done, but it does not look like it will be
    steaming anytime soon unfortunately.

Looks to me like quite a bit of work has been done, plus all the work we can't see.

Does look like it's just been bolted back together really, Assume the boiler, tanks etc would all have to come off again for a proper restoration.

There was another photo taken from an almost identical position. Looks like they are dated 4 days apart - I can't tell what work has been undertaken in that time but the bottle of lucozade is probably flat by now...

Picture in another thread here: Things that cheer me up....

Saw that the other day, bloody good news and must now be the favourite to steam first as 7202 seems forever trapped in the Didcot black hole which has also consumed 2999 and 4079 whilst progress on 7229 seems minimal to say the least, obviously following the 'ready when its ready' mantra, I wonder where she might end up being based, seems way OTT for her present home?

Looking good! Now, after 2999, this will be the next ex-GWR loco I'm really looking forward to seeing complete and in steam (and 6880 Betton Grange too!).

Update from HBSS that 7200's tanks are now finished and ready to be dispatched back to her owners.

    From Facebook

7200 tanks appear to have returned to Quainton yesterday and 7200's boiler will be leaving Quainton Road on the 20th January 2020 for the Heritage Boiler Steam Services in Liverpool for its restoration which it appears is to be done in parallel with 4253's.

4253's boiler has had some work done by the volunteers at Rolvenden, but it was agreed at the trust's AGM to send the boiler to HBSS in order to speed up the return to steam by about 18 months.

Good to see HBSS getting some more trade. And good for the restoration of 4253 too. Good Luck with its return to steam!
