Which railway is closest to completing the set...?

Good point- don't quite know how I missed CanPac. There is really poor quality, dark picture of me stood next to her in Loughborough shed when I was quite small floating about at my mothers house somewhere......

Yes! Off the top of my head, GCR have also had:

WD 2-10-0 (both 'Gordon' and 90775, the latter was resident for a while)

    MR/LMS 1F (41708)

    SR Merchant Navy (35005 worked, 35025 didn't).
Not sure you can count the WC/BB separately though.

    GWR 6100 (6106)

Do we count 'Trojan' which didn't actually work? (Unless it did on another occasion and I've forgotten?)

There may be others. David Putt I believe has photographed every loco which has visited.

    Also you list:
    - 3800, should be 2884 class (can't remember which one we had)
    - 4100, should be 5101 class (4141, 4144)
    - 5200, it is actually 5205 class (5224)

    Have amended accordingly, thanks!

In a slightly odd connection, my dad was also a David Putt....

Dan - I noticed that you missed off B1 214 Gladstone from the Bluebell list. I presumed it was because it was a static exhibit, like the T9, but as that has now included perhaps Gladstone should be as well.

I thought the original premise was "which line could complete the set first - to have every working class of loco run on their line at some point." Therefore the T9 and Gladstone should not count...
Perhaps it should have said "was in steam and moved at least 100 yards"

Thanks, except you changed 3800 to 3884, should be 2884.

'Our' D.P. is the leading light in the ongoing 45+ year preservation & restoration of Loughborough Central station. I believe he occasionally brings his photos out for local slide shows, though it is a long while since I was able to attend one (I live too far away).

The T9 was only ever a static exhibit on the Bluebell. Though has of course worked elsewhere.

The lists might get a little bigger if any of the heritage railways have ever had temporary narrow gauge or miniature railway lines setup with steamers running on them.

That did cross my mind (see post above) but I hadn’t quite decided how strict to be!

Well, in that case assorted RH&DR locos have steamed at the Bluebell on occasion!

The Bluebell rented a line into Horsted Keynes in 1962, the 123/120 tour was in 1963 so the Bluebell did exist and were part of Horsted Keynes if only renting a line.

True, but if we were being super picky, the Bluebell rented the other side of the station - BR were still using the electrified lines so never actually went onto Bluebell metals (as were at the time). But that’s if we were being super picky ;-)

Thanks. I didn't know the L&Y had done a turn but I'll add that one, and also the Q6 (I did say it was late at night - I've only been looking at it for the last four days!).

In the spirit of the original post, I hadn't included Shannon or LNWR 1439 which were both used for filming but were propelled rather than working under their own power. I also haven't included static visitors like Cornwall or the Midland Compound or industrial locos.

If you did want to get tenuous, you could add Prince from the Ffestiniog which was definitely a main line passenger loco in service and has carried passengers in the Engine House car park!

I remember 52044 well as I drove it back from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth on its only round trip on a passenger working. It was double-headed with 46443.

Met 1 isn't an industrial though! ;) An 8F is another missing from your list (one visited in 2016).

I've got a list of all the steam locos that have run on the railway: it comes to I think around 75 different locos so far, not including the RH&DR locos that ran on temporary track. (I say around because I need to validate a few).

I wonder if the WSR would be a contender for your quest: there's a list here - http://www.wsr.org.uk/r-locos.htm

As for "completing the set": 7 out of 8 preserved SE&CR locos have run on the railway - what price completing that set :)

Agreed on Met 1 - just couldn’t find it under Big4/BR so missed it! And really should have remembered the 8F as I rode behind it... Will get editing!

Interesting idea about WSR - anybody who knows want to take a stab?

Agreed, that would be pretty special... Although, at a pinch I’d go for Gladstone as my dream loco to ‘Titfield Thunderbolt’ out of the NRM... ;-)

Also, the GWR/WSR Mogul 9351 which although derived from a 5101 is now in a class of its own!
