It's worth noting that there are several inaccuracies in this post, and that Trewyn has had these pointed out to him, but decided not to alter the post despite a request to do so (or has not read the private messages). In particular, no marketing director will post in public about a heritage magazine ignoring them (to the point of not even mentioning the Gala in their calendar of forthcoming events) if they had not sent both a press release and paid adverts about the event in question. Where Trewyn got the claim that nothing had been sent is a total mystery as we must assume Treywn is not privy to the outgoing mail of the L&B marketing director. The dangers of taking uninformed gossip as accurate is again underlined here. It also needs recalling from this forum that there are some people who are keen to spread malicious gossip about the railway due to a dislike of some of the current management.

... and the "debacle with Lyn and the points" turned out to be the railway just being ultra-cautious until the issue was adequately investigated (sound familiar?) while uninformed individuals ended up making a mountain out of a molehill.

It was part of a related conversation about enthusiasts not understanding the concept of privacy - all fully quoted and pertinent to the wider debate on this thread

On a more positive note, if anyone has not yet seen this yet, I strongly urge them to- it is a sumptious production which fully captures the spirit of the Autumn Gala and in great, and atmospheric detail; the closing minutes especially are glorious. Its easy to imagine oneself transported back to Pilton depot in the '30s for just a few moments:

A most enjoyable video, well turned out locos and stock plus great scenery as well. A welcome change from Pacifics and other large steam locomotives.

Just giving it a "like" doesn't seem enough somehow. What a great film - well done to all concerned.

It would if it said what those safety concerns are, however it is still somewhat ambiguous I'm sorry to be a tad picky but in a organization that people appear to revel in the "conspiracy" type stories (as we have seen in the past) is another vague announcement actually stopping such speculation?

Changing tack slightly, Coach 5 is now well under way, once it is finished will the team keep going on to successive numbers, and if so, what will they be?

Really? I don't think we need to know exactly what the issue is as that can lead to problems on site. I think safety is good enough for most people.

Parts survive of 1, 4, and 9 according to the L&B Wiki. I think this is pretty accurate, based on photos published on the L&B website a year or two back.

A glance at the area shows many trees which have probably grown and others in height since 1935 plus steep embankments.

The original L&B had 16 carriages, of 6 different types. With No. 5. Four of those types are now represented, plus No. 17 which was built a few years later. As mentioned above, Nos. 1 and 4 would provide a "full set" and a second open observation would be much appreciated - certainly for the summer service and two-engine operations. Once those three are "restored" (Van 23 will be first, I think) it's a simple matter of replicating what we have for the remaining missing carriages and after that, doing it all over again in Southern green! (not an official comment, of course - just one possible scenario!)

Everyone within the organisation that needs to know, knows. Anyone in the organisation that doesn't need to know, and the general public, knows enough to not waste their time visiting (only relatively few do in any case) while Chelfham is closed. The site is private property, and the owners have every right to close it to public access. Why is there so often this constant call of "entitlement" to information, and instant gratification? Normally in these cases, the actual truth is far more mundane than any of the lurid conjecture and speculation that circulates. Patience, as they say, is a virtue! (My thoughts only - nothing said on behalf of anyone else)

While I do not believe that the L&B needed to reveal the exact problem, if the initial statement had said something like 'Due to a safety issue, Chelfham has had to be temporarily closed, we will update as soon as possible' I think there would have been less clamour for information.
Having said that, I believe that at least some of those who have a 'constant call of "entitlement" to information, and instant gratification' would be members of the L&B who are putting their own money and time into buying and restoring stations etc and therefore deserve a little more than 'none of your business' in response to enquiries.

Fair point, but as L&B Trust/CIC members will know, they have direct access by telephone and email to all the Trustees and Directors should they wish to enquire personally.
