It's not strictly related to the GWSR itself but I found a video earlier and the village of Broadway (or at least parts of it, so not sure if the station itself will appear) is appearing in the upcoming Xbox racing game Forza Horizon 4 (it also has a race against a steam hauled train at Glenfinnan).

Not sure how much of an impact it'll make but could potentially bring visitors to the village and the railway.

The crash protection beam for the Broadway station road bridge has now been fitted:

    IMG_20181003_180620159_HDR comp.jpg
The end result is so neat, you can hardly see that it is there. Amazing. The CPB is actually behind the wasp stripes; they were there before (and hit a few weeks back too)

    IMG_20181003_180654454_HDR comp.jpg
Here is a detail of how the beam sits on the bearer. You can also see the distance between the beam and the bridge. Note the CPB is 20mm lower than the lowest part of the bridge; the prohibition sign (the round one, which forbids oversized vehicles from passing under it) has been amended.

    IMG_20181003_180715630_HDR comp.jpg
Here is the beam over almost its full length.
Now to wait for the first customer :)

It will be interesting to see how effective it is. A camera system was an option but it has been decided to wait and see, as it is very expensive and the railway is having to fork out a great deal of money on various things at the moment, so that is probably very wise.

Forza Horizon 4 came out yesterday. I'll keep an eye out for a low bridge with a kettle on it while my youngest is playing it.

You're back! Excellent! I've been going through blog withdrawal! :)
I wonder if, as these things spread, and get run into, people will start to become a little more aware of the height of their vehicles?

Sigh, probably not - even without them, plenty of people were hitting things and damaging their vehicles, but without the lesson spreading. :-(

Still, looking forward to a little schadenfreude!!

Yes, I posted the latest update this evening:
    http://haylesabbeyhalt.blogspot.com/2018/10/usk-work-starts-at-winchcombe.html

It was good to be back and enjoy a morning cup of tea with the lads, after 14 days of doppio espresso.... a lot is happening on the GWSR at the moment, all good stuff. It is just as well we have a passenger boost this year, as there have been quite a few, large, unexpected costs, of which the CPB is one @ £100k already. The replacement of the aqueduct at Stanton is also a pricey item; no doubt the bridges blog will tell more (I can see an update coming up, probably tomorrow)

From the point of view of the vehicle driver, is there any difference between a crash protection beam and a bridge without one?

I don't thinks so, as the bridge, with or without the beam, is not on their radar...

I drove under Hyde Lane bridge coming out of Cheltenham yesterday, and the CPB there is absolutely peppered with hits.

While working at CRC building P2 in 2015, we were astonished to see a 'single decker' bus drive down the road. The top deck had just been removed by the CPB at Hyde lane. Never seen that before!

Just noticed on the C+W blog there's a picture of the start made on the Broadway cafe woodwork at the bottom of this post. I still haven't seen the design (@Breva ?) but I'm really looking forward to seeing how it all comes together, lots of nice stained and varnished wood, lovely! :)

Yes, I've seen the design, which is based on a photograph of an original I provided. Sorry, I haven't got a copy to show you. Eddy also drew a lovely 'triptych' unit on the wall behind, consisting of a central mirror and two sets of shelves left and right.
There are some great, like minded guys in C&W. They did the beautiful carved crowd barrier tops from photographs, repaired and recovered in green leatherette the waiting room bench, and rebuilt from a wreck the all wooden platform bench. It's thanks to them that we could go the extra mile for Broadway.

Did you know that there is now a new Blog for Broadway Station, called "Friends of Broadway Station" ? There are currently two posts and the link to the blog is:

    https://friendsofbroadwaystation.blogspot.com

There is also a link on the blog to the live feed camera. The blog is to show what the volunteers are up to on a Wednesday & Saturday working days, anything major happening will probably be updated on the station rebuild blog (such as the surfacing of the drive and kerbing, which should happen this month).

Hope you enjoy the new blog, Happy New Year to you all.

Thanks for that - I've just installed Feedbro and very nice it is too. Best of all, it cuts out a lot of the florid crud that litters pages these days and just gives you an acceptable minimum :)

It would seem from the Broadway Station webcam that the footbridge steps and canopy supports for the steps have now arrived on a warflat from Toddington. More progress!
