    Long stop watering?? at Salisbury outward bound, almost an hour. Later than expected from Victoria so I won't have to leave Walmer at quite such silly o'clock:)

    What was the recommended real ale pub in Sherborne?

    Great to see the FL paths down and up the main line but all is not what it seems.

    I see that the train goes via the slow line at Basingstoke on the way down and that is going to make the timing from WOK to BAS of 23 minutes rather interesting. And on the return, the train is booked no less than 73 minutes from SAL to WOK (60 miles). Good sense though to add a Clapham pu/sd.

    Many thanks, looks handily situated half way between the station and the Abbey, might need to rest my dodgy hip so should have time to sample their wares! (after the 1400hrs carol service!)

    Anyone else on this run?

    Me too - Can't claim to be an old timer although I was just about born in the steam era (1963)! Always happy to talk steam and drink ale though :)

    Just a week until this trip that hopefully will be the best of all the Sherborne events. The return run of 73 minutes from Salisbury to Woking for the 60 odd miles is not exactly a pacey timing but it is non stop and is FL from Worting through Basingstoke although no doubt there may be the usual train management at Worting to hold us back to schedule as we are right behind a P'mth to London service that calls at Basingstoke on the FL.

    And for the photographers, be aware of a curious routing at Basingstoke going down. Although we are FL from Woking to Worting, the charter has to go via the SL through the station as Clan Line (all steam, I believe) is now prohibited from using the down fast. What was a 30 mph restriction a year ago because of clearance problems has turned into a prohibit due to infrastructure movement. It seems that Clan Line might now scrape its cylinders if allowed through on the fast.

    What a wonderful railway we have.

    On UkSteam it says that the stock for this tour is the Pullman stock, is this right or will it be normal MK1 coaches?

    Keep you fingers crossed for this one. See MNLPS FB page. The loco has failed its FTR for tomorrow's Belmond. Damage to tender wheels from a high check rail so will presumably need some work to get it ready for next week.

    If the damage was caused by a high check rail surely Network Rail are responsible for that. <BJ>

    Oh Pooooooooooo!:Depressed::Depressed::Depressed:

    Lets hope the pair of tender wheels can be fixed and tested by next Thursday.

    First trip I'd softened on as it was 35028 and booked since being so disappointed with the SD trip to Winchester from Ashford two years ago (no Lizzie, much shovage, stewed, poor service and late).

    Reported as 35028 being dragged by 67004 on the moves to and from Selhurst.

    Dragged.... Please, you mean piloted/assisted by 67004 as she would have been in steam and doing some work. Dragged would be as in dead with rods off....

    She was in steam for the move to Selhurst.
