Beyond the obvious, plenty of people would have known about it. But Discussion regarding Royal train workings are not allowed prior to the event. Which was a problem for the MNLPS in getting a support crew, when they cannot tell people what it's for!
DB staff would have been put on standby for job, although not knowing full details.
Loco and train movements are not published in the normal way, so not easy to pick up.
Personally, I had been tipped off, just in case I was to be required, however in the end I wasn't. Job not on my patch.
However, I was very surprised that 35028's move to South Wales yesterday was not picked up by anybody on here.

Yes, we on the MNLPS committee obviously do. It's been planned for several weeks, but had to remain confidential. As the BBC report says, HRH Prince Charles and Clan Line are both 70 around now.

There's a bit of me wonders how the future George VII squares his 'green' credentials with travelling behind a massively polluting machine... ;)

Impressive that this was kept so quiet, even with the engine and coach move yesterday. My phone was going nuts the day before 6201 worked the Royal Train a few years ago with all the timings coming through!

Oh it was because you only had to check HRHs diary, which is freely available, and put two and two together....

Someone did report 35028 being dragged through Egham behind a diesel last night on Faceache. Obviously no one knew where it was off to though!

Nice to see Clan Line working through tbe Royal Family as it's already hauled his sister.

So, an SR loco for a change. Hopefully a few more for Clan Line and HRH in future now he has got a taste for class.

Indeed so, and as we have pointed out to HRH, Clan Line is the only operational steam loco based in central London, just over the river from Buck House.

I'm guessing that the P2 (when it's up and running) might be first choice for Charlie-boy!;)

Quite so, but someone in the family will be PoW no doubt!

His eldest son will become PoW on Charles' accession to the throne. Assuming his mum doesn't outlive him.

Regarding Royal train my late father at Scout Green box only knew the Royal train was due to the four bells in the box .

I know your comment was said tongue in cheek 60017 but in all seriousness, I think hauling the Royal Train is earnt rather than chosen so I feel that Clan Line is clearly the right choice of loco for now and the foreseeable. The A1 has a lot of ground to make up after this year so and who knows about the P2 when it's finished, I think the A1 Trust has more important matters to prioritise rather than worrying about hauling the next Royal Train, even though some members of the group may think otherwise.

    Well done to the MNLPS.
