It was July 2013 when the six A4s where at NRM and Bittern hauled the royal train from York to Church Fenton I believe?

Just to add to the list of steam hauled Royal trains.
4472 hauling the Queen Mother between Stratford LL and North Woolwich in October/November 1984.

    Cheers, Neil

Unless the rods are off it has to be in steam

Oh dear the language police! One dictionary definition is to be drawn or pulled along but does it matter we all understand what it means

I think 'Drag' is a Modern traction term, it's to do with diesels towing electrics away from the wires.

It's the working regulations and security that are the deciding factor, not the sort of coaching stock. ( One pullman and a Charter train unit BCK.) I have seen it somewhere in print that the Area Manager for Liverpool Street considered it to be a Royal working. I'll have a look tomorrow and see if I can find something. ( As there was no love lost between the Great Eastern and Regional HQ at York, I suspect not all the protocol was followed.)

Incidentally the train ran with class 1 headcode not the four lamps for a full royal. The area was heaving with police who didn't seemed to be worried if you held a BR photo ID card and building pass.

    Cheers, Neil

Clan Line made it onto page 6 of The Daily Telegraph today. A picture of Prince Charles in the cab with the driver.

I hope that they mentioned that Clan Line was built in the same year that Charles was born? ;) <BJ>

I did mean the royal train as in the stock. I went to see 4472 back then. It was during the IRA troubles and was supposed to be a secret. The police sergeant on the bridge at West Ham was a bit miffed at around a dozen of us turning up to photograph it

    Back tracking to Post 49.
"Signal Box Coming Up Sir" A compilation of railwaymen's stories compiled by Geoff Body and Bill Parker.

Another of those books on how to run a railway and things that wouldn't be allowed nowadays.

    Cheers, Neil

Prince Charles travelled on the footplate of 7029 from Snow Hill to Tyseley [Warwick Road] in 1988, where he met local people on dismebarking before viewing the L&B 150 exhibition. I have pictures somewhere....
