One question not yet asked here appears to be does the PLC want 4110 to remain on the line? With new PLC leadership there may be other locomotives and plans that have been considered.

Well, Faol's earlier post did seem to address this:

Looking at the link, I have no intention of clicking on it. Looks very odd.

The security seems to be set that you can’t load those files directly from Amazon, but only if you link via the Companies House website.

If you go here: https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/02672874/filing-history and load the 10 Nov 2016 document it will load directly.

A considerable and very misleading oversimplification.

How do you know what was/was not included the sale at the time against what is now considered to be part of 4110? you could well be comparing "apples with pears".

This was purchased as a part dismantled loco with stored parts - do you have a list of what was/is now included?

I don't think it does really. I guess - and it is quite understandable - that the PLC are hedging their bets. The future for the line is in a state of flux. at present, so it is certainly unwise to close any doors. It is also plausible that they do not wish to make negative comments alienating many of their line volunteers.

I see the webcam at williton overlooking the crossing has been objected to by a local regular user of the crossing.i would have thought it would have been welcomed except of course by somebody who is easily recognisable and up to no good!

A technical pedant writes: it looks more like what is happening is that: when you open the webpage it asks Amazon S3 to give it a temporary security token for each file, which it then embeds in the file URI as a query parameter. The security token will expire after a set time.

In other words, the link will only work for a set period after loading the web page. I have to apologise for not having all of the AWS API memorized but I *suspect* that the X-Amz-Expires parameter you can see in the URI is measured in minutes and therefore the link is valid for an hour - expecting the user to open all links they might want within a minute of opening the page is a slightly unreasonable design.

I suggest that the desire not to have ones comings & goings broadcast on the internet is not an unreasonable one

I gather your not a fan of railcam then as most cover the general surroundings as well as the railway.

If my home were in view of a camera like this, streaming to the world at large, I would also insist it were repositioned.

That is for a mixture of reasons. Privacy is one, not broadcasting when my house is empty another more important one.

I agree entirely. The railcams are fantastic resources and allow all of us to experience much more activity than would otherwise be possible, particularly for those of us with mobility issues. But surely not at the expense of a householder`s privacy? At the risk of sounding paranoid, its not just enthusiasts who find public webcams interesting. WSR deserves credit for acting so promptly once a complaint had been received.

More to the point there is legislation governing the use of 'CCTV' which may well be infringed, with serious consequences.
