I apologise for the thread drift, but based on the froth on here over the hot summer not many takers on NP I would suspect for the 33 behind the U.
Not sure you can run round at Weymouth (there is a crossover between P2 and P1 but unsure if still operational) unless you go out to Jersey Sidings and even then it may now not be easily possible as the points nearest to Upwey are now clipped. Although the 2 Class 50's must have done it somehow last Saturday.

Meanwhile, in respect of the thread's eponymous hero, @RalphW tells us elsewhere that the MN has returned to Carnforth requiring some attention. Any idea whether there will be more 2018 outings for the big green 'un?

BBC South Today has been doing a piece on Canadian Pacific's rebuild at Eastleigh and how many women worked on it in 1948. Piece will be done on the regional news at 6.30, for those that can view it :)

The evening piece also included an interview on the lack of women in the rail industry and seems to be slightly longer. Ta for the link - one for get_iplayer.

    BRITISH INDIA BACK SOUTH
11th January 2019 Nigel Devereux News

    By Brian Sharpe

SOUTHERN steam enthusiasts are in for a treat next summer, when West Coast Railways’ Carnforth-based Merchant Navy Pacific No. 35018 British India Line visits the Southern Region for the first time since its return to action.

The Railway Touring Company is promoting two trips with the locomotive. The first is the‘Bournemouth Belle’ on Saturday,July 6 commemorating the last steam-hauled run of the famous train 52 years earlier. The train will run on its original route from Waterloo to Bournemouth and return.

Merchant Navy Pacific No. 35018 British India Line was a familiar locomotive over the past summer on ‘The Scarborough Spa Express’. The 4-6-2 is seen passing Howsham, near York on August 16. ROBERT H FALCONER
On Tuesday, July 9, No. 35018 will head the ‘End of Southern Steam’ tour, commemorating the last day of steam on the Southern Region in 1967. This train will be steam-hauled from Waterloo to Yeovil Junction, where passengers can visit the Yeovil Steam Centre. The train returns steam-hauled from Weymouth to Waterloo in the evening.

British India Line will be covering unfamiliar territory for the class on it way south, heading the RTC’s ‘Scarborough Flyer from Scarborough to Ealing Broadway on June 15.

This train is routed via York, Doncaster and the Great Northern / Great Eastern joint line through Gainsborough and Lincoln, before rejoining the East Coast Main Line at Werrington Junction.

Yes. Although it won't be the same as 12 May, which after 35028 to Par, was one of the best runs of the year for me. BIL is certainly a strong 'un at the moment, but just proves the point that a MN's capabilities should not be underestimated.

Is that new? As a loco with 6' 2" wheels, I thought she was a 75 mph loco? The list of 2019's locos on uksteam.info lists her as such.

Both 61264 and 61306 are limited to 75mph. We ran up to 73mph on 2nd Feb, there was no need for anything faster!

I heard that it was now 70mph, from BIL's driver back on 2nd Feb. 75mph for 3-cylinder locomotives.

Brits have two cylinders and as far as I know are allowed 75 on the main line. A definitive answer from the likes of James Shuttleworth would be welcome but I've always understood it to be wheel diameter as the deciding factor.
