There wil be a delay to the charter as shown by Traksy.uk. The line is blocked by a tree.
The o8:21 departure from Keighley (Leeds to Skipton service) departed on time but only moved a short distance.
It is now showing back at Keighley station with the steam charter adjacent to it. <BJ>

Disruption at Keighley expected until 12:00

Well I was wrong about the diesel coming off at Keighley, West Coast Railways class 37 has just been attached again, the other 37, a silver one must have belonged to Haworth that came off as it arrived at Keighley. I didn't see the numbers on them though.

A class 37 on the back of the train is the least of their problems. <BJ>

Yeah, 075 is their c37. 669 is the WCR one. Presumably the WC 37 didn't take the ECS up the line but stabled at Keighley overnight? - brave thing! ;-)

She's away and on the mainline, has been asked to clear any obstructions on the track ahead by Network Rail.

Has the charter been sent out ahead of the 08:21 service train? If so, is that on the assumption that a locomotive is better able to deal with any obstruction than a DMU?

Logical. So West Coast is doing Network Rail's job for them again. First icicles, now tree branches.

Wonder if the 'juice' has been turned off so all service trains (of the few running anyway) stopped by default?

The charter has now passed the obstruction and is now heading for Carlisle. Phew !! :)

The unit to Skipton has been terminated at Keighley. <BJ>

Power is off, 45596 passed the site of the obstruction. Top of said tree is still on the outer guard wire on the Down side, doubt it is clear for service trains to run until it has been cut down. Nothing more 45596 can do, she's soldiering on!

Al, you are being a bit over sensitive here. Trains being cautioned and asked to examine the line is a perfectly normal operating procedure and it happens to all operators. I know of no railwayman who objects to being asked to do this as it often saves blocking the line until a road response vehicle can get there - trains can examine the line much easier and quicker (even at 20 mph) than road transport can.

So what's the alternative ?? park a fully loaded train in Keighley station while NR have a run up the S&C to see how things are?

Yes, last weekend we were on icicle inspection, it was a bit of a PIA, but we kept moving, the coffee (and wine) was flowing, and we were RT back in Euston.
I feel sure the pax on the day out will be well pleased that they are on their way.

Are WC Trains equipped to deal with any situations that may arise?
Chain Saws, Ropes, Ladders etc and qualified staff to use them?
