Thanks, I'm really trying to cut back on Facebook activity - so am not signed up to the event page. Not that the main watercress line feed ever gets displayed on my timeline either, despite following it.

    That brings back some memories!
I remember travelling behind both loco's on Santa Specials when I was a child. There was a lot of snow on the ground on one occasion. I don't have the pictures anymore as they faded away (I didn't have a very good camera back then). I was really disappointed when 601/90775 left the MHR. She was just right for the line.

Does anyone know when some more details are likely to be released around the replacement travel arrangements between Alton and Medstead given the lack of parking options at Ropley?

These buses are free for gala passengers, there is also a half hourly bus service (Stagecoach no 64 Winchester to Alton) on all three days, but you will need to pay for your fare. Stops at Alton Station, Four Marks (top of station approach) Ropley (bottom of station hill) and Alresford - Co-op and Perins school)

I'm lead to believe that the timetable is currently being gone over with a fine tooth-comb to get rid of any gremlins, before being approved - so I would say its imminent!

Now confirmed on the MHR website that the field at Ropley is unavailable for parking at this event.
I hope that the SWR strike scheduled for 9th March is cancelled. Could be a pain for those arriving by train.
I wonder if the Scottish tank on tour at the moment might make a detour to this Gala.....

Caledonian Railway No. 419 is one of the headliners for the East Lancs Railway gala that weekend.

There was a press release about a week or so ago that the SWR / RMT dispute over Guards and safety trained staff and the dispute is suspended.

My comment was in reply to Green Five (hence quote in post) regarding the query of if No. 419 could somehow swing in via Mid Hants during here English tour, where I've clarified that on the same weekend she is already booked an appearance elsewhere.

The timetable is certainly in existence, and it looks like us Medstead folk are going to have our work completely cut out, so no doubt it'll be appearing publicly imminently.

This might sound like a silly question but where do those of us travelling by public transport to the event via the Bus connecting service to Medstead buy our MHR travel tickets on the day?
Medstead has a rather small ticket office to cater for a Gala event where it is acting as the terminus Station. Will there be temporary cabins at Medstead like the ones used at Ropley for Special events?

Would be really nice to see a timetable! I'm trying to decide whether to take a day off on Friday to go to this - if nothing comes out tomorrow, I'll be deciding "no" and they'll lose one potential customer.
