    This looks interesting for rare track with steam. Despite the RTC blurb it appears that the steam loco will work solo from Blackpool to Preston and then via Hellifield and Carnforth to Preston. All times are on RTT. I wonder which loco will work this?

    Do you mean 13 April? 6 April is Carnforth - Redmire. Anyway, good to see my return north from Cathex to Dereham is in the system. Wouldn't mind 45699 if available, as its been a while since I last had a run with it.

    Only thing that put me off going on this tour was that the steam mileage looks short.

    Agreed. Nowhere enough 'chuff-for-my-buck' sadly.

    Whilst the Blackpool trip does have that rare section, the Citadel is a better bet for 'chuffs for bucks' particularly if it's being double headed.

    Would not the Border Raider have more steam mileage that day? Though there is less steam than last time (given steam only comes on at Crewe and it presumably won't go via Leeds).

    Shorter Border Raider still 304 miles or thereabouts.

    Yes may be able to do that depending on the time of the water stop at Preston on the return but the RTC trip is a (relatively) easy day. We would catch a Glasgow Pendo back from Preston in either case

    I am booked on this as it's possible from London in a day and an unusual destination. Actually the time of around three and a half hours of steam is not a lot different from the Cumbrian Coast trips when steam comes on at Carlisle.

    I've not done a booking yet but I may consider it.

    The RTC Blackpool train will have the steam towed backwards from Preston twice.

    If there is no run round facility in Blackpool North, then I would assume engine and support would be left on the train and towed to Preston from where they would detach and head north up the wcml

    'At Preston, our steam locomotive allocated from the Carnforth Pool will be attached at the rear of the train and will be hauled by our Class 86 electric to Blackpool North' (from RTC website)...leaving Blackpool steam will be at the front, so only once .

    If you look at RTT I think you will find that the sequence will be that once it arrives from London at Blackpool the train will return to Preston for stabling before going back to Blackpool for the start of the steam leg at 1404. The electric loco follows on to Preston where it waits for the charter to go around the Hellifield loop.

    @Stephen Hughes
    The RTC web site does not mention the two ecs movements.
    Ecs Blackpool to Preston http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U10760/2019/04/13/advanced
    Then later ecs return http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U10761/2019/04/13/advanced
    So two trips.
