Clerestory is the word you are wanting - the term is borrowed from church architecture, where it is used to mean a high-level series of windows to admit light into the body of the building.

There’s a video doing the rounds on Facebook showing 2999 running back and forth at Didcot in a plain green livery. Looks fantastic!

She’s alive. Well done to all involved.

We finally have our second working mainline steam new build.

Looking forward to seeing 2999 for the first time on Wednesday at a gathering of supporters. It's been a while but it's been worth it.

I wouldn’t call it a new build more like a retro rebuild

Possibly but I'm happy to see what equates to a Saint running.

So am I, I was being a bit pedantic but they did already have the most expensive bit, the boiler

Would anyone know when the site opens on Friday morning please as website seemed vague. Pru Leith is launching 2999 at 11.15 but not sure of gates open at 10.30am?

Didnt realise Great Western operated any 460's. Thought they were exclusive to the Gatwick Express.o_O

? Don't understand that comment at all.
What a magnificent sight this loco is! It's been a long long time but we're nearly there now. I only regret that I won't be able to see it this coming weekend in the flesh. It would look marvellous bringing a train into Broadway Station (more likely passing through on an express as the class once did). There would be much whinging in the marsh about Mk 1 stock (lack of) of course but not everyone was lucky or wealthy enough to obtain Churchward/Dean stock for their heritage GWR lines!

With some members of the class built as 4-4-2s rather than 4-6-0s for comparison purposes. I seem to recall that the GWS were going to make 2999 convertible between the two versions, so do they have the requisite kit to perform such a conversion. I've had a trawl through this thread but haven't been able to find any reference to the Atlantic version.

Very nice, hopefully a visit to the SVR and use with the toplights won't be too far away.

It has been very quiet on the Atlantic front, I haven't heard it mentioned for a very long time. Possibly the GWS just wanted to get her finished and then worry about the conversion kit later when there are some pennies flowing into the piggy bank, or maybe they've just quietly abandoned the idea altogether.

It must have been a VERY emotional moment for those involved it this project to see her running for the first time after SO many years hard work. Hats off to everyone for creating a fantastic and in my view one ot the best looking GWR engine !

    Congratulations from Norway!

In the Latest Steam Railway it's stated that they still need a pair of axleboxes and the spring gear for the rear frames to produce the Atlantic. There may be more kit required too, I don't have my comic with me at the moment, so that's just off the top of my head.

Thanks Keith and Richard. Quite agree in getting the loco up and running first. Then gather more of those "paper promises'" [i.e. money] for the conversion kit. You replied as I was replying to Keith, there Richard. I had an idea at the back of my mind that they'd need some at least extra parts too, as well as the cash......

Apologies for my poor attempt at humour. Class 460 are Southern third rail units.
