Timings now available on RTT. Tornado comes on and off at Crewe.

Very late arrival back into Tame Bridge Parkway, a good 90 minutes later than the provisional times. This one is going to be a long day!

Looking at the timings, we are due to arrive into platform 1 of Carlisle just 5 minutes before 44871+45407 will be bringing their ECS into platform 3 for the return departure of The Citadel.

If everything works out, there may be 3 steam locos at Carlisle at the same time, which will probably be one of the highlights of the trip.

We are also due to be at platform 11 of Crewe at the same time as one of the LSL locos is at platform 12 preparing to depart for Stratford on the outward The William Shakespeare, so there will be 2 steam locos in Crewe at the same time.

    Should be a memorable day!

Have seen much worse with steam only on north of Crewe or Preston. I can't access the list but I'm sure this one was steam throughout in which case it's only the Shap leg that's all that slow but easily explained by the WCML traffic levels these days at a guess. Not sure how it was ever going to be back 90 minutes earlier without a much earlier start to traverse the S&C earlier, which may not be poss if other charters running (and I know which tends to go down worse out the 2 anyway)!

High Tea in Carlisle! Timings not good for us in South Wales. Return to Crewe well after the last Manchester-Cardiff departs. Long way round to drive as Jns 1-2 on the M50 will be closed. B*****

UKRT now showing confirmed return to Crewe at 2033.

The day in total seems to be about 75 minutes shorter than the last Border Raider - although of course with less steam mileage.

Now virtually as good a path as most 95mph (or under) diesel tours get over those bits, even if they don't get clear runs generally. Tornado will be living up to its name in places!

A proper path with a chance of a full blooded charge at Shap - we hope. All we need now is for the northbound path to incorporate an ice cream stop at Appleby. From a quick glance it appears as though the whole train is being turned at Carlisle. Can anyone confirm?

Movements around Carlisle are showing as:
    Diesel:
    http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U10836/2019/04/13/advanced
Train with 60163 at north end:
    http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U10837/2019/04/13/advanced
    Diesel and stock into P3
    http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U10839/2019/04/13/advanced
    60163 return to P3 via Upperby Jn;
    http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U10838/2019/04/13/advanced
    Diesel off to North Yard:
    http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U10840/2019/04/13/advanced

Been told by a man who knows that I missed a second path from London Road Yard. It's now in the list. If all goes to time the train will not be turned.

Thanks, I missed a path and thought the train was being turned - silly me!

Me too until I was prompted David. Thought the 2 paths were duplicates. Not enough attention to detail.

On paper it's doable but on the day it's questionable.

I'm doing the Saphos/70000 trip on the return as I'm heading south past it anyway. A great day in the Northern Hills
is on the cards, so fingers crossed for all concerned.
