Just checked the SD website, the tour I'm travelling on to York on the 26th May will also be a black 5. Looking forward to it

It also appears that the wheel has gone full circle with 'Tornado' now being in the pool of locomotives where a trip is showing as 'Steam Hauled'.

Steam one way to York with a Black 5 up the ECML apart from the Lincoln diversion. That may well be a pathing nightmare. Let's wish the planners well with that one.

Likewise, I wonder whether they will put the diesel inside on this like they did on the trip to Lincoln in December. I'll understand having a diesel on the rear as the return is of course diesel hauled.

Sorry, I should have been a bit clearer. ( Slipping back into train planning shorthand.... ) Yes that is the length of railway I meant. Linford St Jn is the junction where the "Eurostar" flyover joins the South Eastern Chatham mainline. The junction at the bottom of the incline with the South Western is Nine Elms Jn.

    Cheers, Neil

I guess this should just about cover anything not Saphos or VT related

"Motive power is likely to be from a pool of steam locomotives including; 61306 Mayflower, 46233 Duchess of Sutherland, 46201 Princess Elizabeth, 60009 Union of South Africa, 45596 Bahamas, 45699 Galatea, 45690 Leander, 35018 British India Line, 60163 Tornado and various Black Fives."

although maybe the word "likely" could mean they are included as well.

A possible interpretation is "Motive power will be whatever we can get hold of".

Another possible interpretation is '48151 is unlikely.'

Although has been used by SD in the past. Somewhere I have an image of it leaving a Staines pick up.

48151 has been used by SD in the South. She was hired for several trips in June and July of 2011. I travelled on an Alton to Canterbury trip with the 8F. The 8F left the train at Willesden on the return journey. I also travelled on a Victoria to Hastings trip scheduled for the 8F but it was hauled by 34067 as the 8F failed. She also had a part to play in the SR Anniversary trip of that year, working the Weymouth to Yeovil section (34067 hauled the other sections).

I notice that Uksteam has deleted Duchess of Sutherland from Saturday's Paddington-Kingswear railtour.
Does anyone have any idea of what loco will haul the train? Also there are no timings available from RTT.

Still showing as 46233 on Steam Dreams site

    https://www.steamdreams.co.uk/tours.php?tourid=72112

With my limited knowledge of html code I would guess that it is a colouring error on UK Steam.

Duchess of Sutherland from Paddington-Kingswear on Saturday, 4/5/2019.

Latest news from the Steam Dreams website. <BJ>

This trip is scheduled to be hauled by a vintage diesel locomotive, likely to be a British Rail Class 47, 37 or 33.

So Dave's information was right. Hope they haven't got any problems with 6233 after GBXII.

Not something Steam Dreams needed, firstly Mayflower getting problems now their first tour since March and it's diesel hauled. I hope the rest of the year is good for them.

Timings section of the Steam Dreams website reads:

"*Our rostered steam locomotive 6233 Duchess of Sutherland will not be fit to run on our trip on Saturday 4 May. Unfortunately, there are no other steam locomotives operational or available to work our trip that have the permitted route clearance authority in place. It is therefore regrettable that we have no option at this late stage but to run our trip diesel hauled throughout. 6233 Duchess of Sutherland arrived at Carnforth depot having run another trip that day. Following a post-trip inspection yesterday a defect has been identified with one of its leading tyres on the front axle, where a hole in the tyre has been found. The locomotive cannot run until this has been rectified, which involves machining away the tyre on a wheel lathe (reducing its diameter effectively) until a hole-free wheel profile is produced. The locomotive then has to be re-weighed and adjusted to ensure the axle loadings are within tolerance for running on Network Rail infrastructure."

    Have a look at pages 21 and 22: https://www.rssb.co.uk/rgs/standards/GMGN2497 Iss 1.pdf

Unfortunate but turning the tyres should be able to remove the defect, perhaps with a bit more if a small zone of martensite is still present, but of course it reduces the useful life of that set of tyres.

    Regards,

    Dan
