Is this the one 71000 ran with in the early '90s? Guessing itwould need some work doing but, it be interesting to do some trials somewhere with something!

You make it sound like a marks and spencer advert for a coach.

Dinmore not leaving until Gwsr until approx 10th June. Appearing at the Gwsr gala end of May. S160 hasn’t started test running at the nymr yet but it looks like it’s coming along nicely.

Believe the Standard 4 is the only one current available for service. Had a nice run this morning behind her.

6046? Which one was that? I make it King Æthelbald, or maybe King Æthelbehrt depending on your view of the legitimacy of Edgar Ætheling... :)

Went to NYMR yesterday and got a glimpse of 2253 certainly will be different but very smartly turned out. Will look great with the observation saloon.

Hopefully running by August, but that’s all down to getting run in at NYMR [IMG][IMG]

Here is the almost finished product which was moved today down to the running shed at Grosmont to be prepared for steaming in the next week or two. The Canadian red livery is certainly eye-catching. IMG_0391 (2) copy.jpg

Is that a nameplate backing board I see?

It is indeed. The loco is to be named Omaha in memory of the party of RAF radar engineers who landed on the D-Day beach in support of the American forces 75 years ago and suffered serious casualties. The owner, Peter Best's father was a member of that party. A neat plaque above the nameplate gives the background to this.

Yes I applaud the naming of the locomotive as 'Omaha', a very suitable choice at the present time. It should be remembered that many Canadian and American servicemen did their training and subsequent embarkation in South Devon, particularly close to Dartmouth and Torbay. It will be a well publicised loco I believe (assuming it comes here ;))
I am more interested in seeing this loco than the Scottish one! :D

If its same Peter Best as has had links with WCRC then the livery is also very similar to engines linked with that family. Leander carried Midland Crimson in LMS which is lined out the same way and I believe they own 46441 which was put out in Midland Crimson lined out as British railways, much like Galatea is today. Could be that they link their engines to such a colour scheme.

Have to say that is a touching and very fitting way of showing respect and admiration for people that showed courage and sadly for some the ultimate sacrifice. The plaque outlying the reasons will make it all the more poignant, but its a brilliant way of cementing the links between an American engine running in the UK. I have to say that normally I don't find S160s as interesting or attractive, but the standard of the work done to this engine post-overhaul is incredibly impressive!
