That is one of a series of films funded by YAG in the early years, with the distinctive voice of Bob Lomas commentating.
Bob and Jack Neale were Pickering Stn Foremen and assisted Ken Clough in the making of these films.

I know its a while off yet but the NYMR is running a Volunteer Recruitment event at Pickering in April.
Time to get it into your diary before the date is claimed by others in your family.
    https://www.nymr.co.uk/Event/volunteer-recruitment-day

And in an added bit on recruitment.
Do you think you could operate a Tamper?
We are going to be running another Tamper Operators course as we have lost a couple of operators recently due to Work or House moves.
We need more operators urgently, no experience needed as training will be given.

Come and have a look on the day.

    Some photos taken in action.

A bit of a rarity these days but Diesel shunter brake van rides are running this weekend at Pickering. 4th - 5th May.
A behind the scenes event is happening.

Also of note is that some locos are facing North so photos in the depths of Newtondale and Northdale may be worth a try.

The news seems to be trued but appears to have been leaked prematurely. Still, congrats to everyone at the NYMR who worked to bring this application to fruition.

It's now on the NYMR website, so I think we can take it to be official. 90% of the project cost has been raised, including a £1M grant front the rural payments agency. Just another million or so matched funding to find. Work on the first of the three bridges at Goathland to be rebuilt/replaced should take place over next winter I would guess, and perhaps the new carriage shed next spring.

    A report from the BBC:

North Yorkshire Moors Railway given lottery grant

A 180-year-old steam railway which has been used as a location for several films has been given a lottery grant for a preservation project.
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) runs steam trains between Pickering and Whitby, attracting about 300,000 passengers a year.
It has been used in films such as Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Phantom Thread, with Daniel Day-Lewis.
The £4.4m grant will be used to make four carriages wheelchair-friendly.
It will also cover the renewal of Goathland Station bridges and a new carriage stabling point close to Pickering.
The railway runs along 24 miles (39km) of steep inclines and remote landscapes.
It is owned and operated by a charitable trust that employs 100 people, also relying on about 1,000 volunteers.

John Bailey, NYMR Trust chairman, said: "This is just incredible news - and I am so proud of everyone at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway who has worked so hard to achieve this amazing success.
"We'd like to thank the National Lottery Heritage Fund, RPA and the York, North York and East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership who have made this possible.
"These are exciting times for everyone who cares for the railway, our visitors, supporters, staff and volunteers.
"This is the most ambitious project we've ever undertaken and will build on our successful growth in recent years, so we can all achieve even more in the future."

Just got round to watching the first episode of the second series of NYMR's extended telly adverts, thoroughly enjoyed it, all the laughs exactly in line with why I enjoy volunteering on a heritage railway so much. And because the fire risk was a genuine risk, there wasn't even much of that oh so annoying false jeopardy either as that was enough to keep the producers happy presumably. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Peter Best's S160 saw light of day today when it was moved from NELPG's Deviation Shed down to the running shed at Grosmont in preparation for steaming in the next week or two. The eye-catching Canadian Red livery works well on what is not the most graceful class of loco in the world IMG_0391 (2) copy.jpg

It is quite astonishing how much a suitable paint scheme can improve, even revolutionize the appearance of an engine.

There are some classes, such as a Stanier Black 5, that have such harmonious lines that they look superb in any livery, even plain black. But many other types really need some colour to make them look pleasing. The Riddles Austerity classes were among the least good-looking locomotives to work in Britain, yet "Gordon" in the SVR's Highley Engine House is transformed by an attractive coat of blue plus a splash of red.

The S160 was a really ugly duckling, yet the folk at Grosmont have turned it via the CPR livery, if not into a beautiful swan, then at least into something fairly attractive. So congratulations all round.

To give credit where it is due, the livery is the work of Peter Best and his team - it was already painted when it arrived at Grosmont for final fitting out a few months ago. It is certainly an inspired choice of livery.

Taken on the day it arrived back in February.
Really like the colour. There was some parts still to paint.
Wonder what it would look like with a snowplough painted in Indian Red?

    Titled it 3 USA Items.
Loco and Tender are 2 what was the 3rd?

Would it be those rails in the foreground which are an odd length (something like 46 foot) because they came from America during the war in Liberty Ships - anything longer would not have fitted in the ship's hold.
