I think that's the issue. It was done without the proper facilities, but it seems the work was to a similar standard as 4472's Southall overhaul.

Royal Scot was completely rebuilt at the old LNWR Heritage Co site adjacent to Crewe Heritage Centre.

I was under the impression that after 6100 ran at Llangollen it was taken back to Crewe and was fairly extensively pulled apart. I certainly saw it there without wheels and motion etc.

5029 was covered with enough dust to suggest it hasnt been touched for quite a while.

I was slightly surprised to see 35027 looking so bedraggled. Considering the owners resources I would've thought it would at least have a simple tent over it. What was once a working loco is rapidly deteriorating. Assuming the Scot, A2, Castle and A4 get done in order (and ignoring overhauls for 34046, 70000 and the 5) it might be 10 years before 27 is touched, by which time it will have suffered greatly.

Yeah. Until I realised what I was looking at I thought it was an almost-untouched Barry job.

Going through Crewe by train, I too thought 35027 was an untouched Barry wreck.

35027 has ran in preservation and was originally restored by Southern Locomotives limited. Last ran in 2003 and is far from a Barry wreak.

Apologies. All I meant was to my (very) untrained eyes, from a distance, it looked in a worse state than perhaps it actually is.
