I understand that the Bristol to Yeovil PM section of this tour today is booked 34046 + diesel + stock.
Not one for the purists. Let's wait to see how this pans out. <BJ>

That is indeed the formation with the diesel inside.

I see that the Pen Mill stop has been shortened on RTT as all that now needs to happen is for Braunton to slip off the front and up to the Junction. Operationally convenient, I'm guessing.

Diesel doing nothing this morning except wiping the smile off the faces of passengers about to board the train at Keynsham.

10 coaches today. Mk.2s at the front from Weymouth this afternoon. <BJ>

In defence of the arrangement, this could possibly be to do with signalling at Pen Mill and bringing a diesel from the rear to the front within the loop. So a possible problem brought about by the length of the train. Happy to be proved wrong but this may well be just one of those (genuine) operational issues.

Yes, I agree, but disappointing for the passengers to see a diesel tucked in behind Braunton as it approached. They were probably also aware that their steam tour would arrive at Weymouth diesel hauled.

Sadly today's steam tours from Bristol to Weymouth are a far cry from when they were steam hauled throughout. Setting off at a reasonable time rather than at 07:35 for a short trip to the south coast. It's now 09:35 and already the steam section is over until the return.

    Rant over. <BJ>

So it's getting on for an hour since steam should have left Yeovil for Weymouth and still no action on RTT. You have to hope that this is not Plan B for the punters with the loco remaining at Yeovil until the train arrives back at Pen Mill where it is reunited with the train.

34046 coming off at Yeovil PM: (copyright as stated)
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U55204/2019/06/26/advanced shows 34046 departing Yeovil PM 23 late for Weymouth where it is due in at 15:50. At the time of typing 34046 left Maiden Newton 21 late for the single line to Dorchester West. However, it will need watering at Weymouth before the 16:09 scheduled departure so on-time might not be possible.
We have to wait and see what happens.

A few minutes down when it came through Limpley Stoke tonight, but it sure sounded good as it hammered through the valley towards Bath.

Seems to be a shortage of images from the tour yesterday.
A couple climbing Upwey Bank, passing the site of Wishing well Halt and approaching Bincombe Tunnel. Nice to go somewhere that NR have recently done some clearance work for once. IMG_2051.JPG IMG_2055.JPG IMG_2057.JPG

Seeing that on most Saphos Trains. The Welsh Marches and English Riviera trains were both excellent but had little footage or stills and they were both 'proper steam'.

Is that because of the odd little headboard perhaps?

Possibly Jeremy. Still a shame as the little Southerner performed superbly. Its only a headboard. you could say the same about RTC's and SD's. They might be the right shape but not authentic in any way.

Agreed, but this Saphos one doesn't even look anything like an original one, at least the others do!

I like your description of a Light Pacific as a "little Southerner"!!

Odd that some will put up with air con stock yet moan about the authenticity of a headboard..

Getting to be necessary to enjoy proper steam hauled trains unfortunately. Don't see the headboard from the inside of the train.
