We boarded the first train at Kidderminster at about 9:40am. The guard/TTI told us the first train would be delayed because and I quote "75069 derailed between Hampton Loade & Highley. It hit a tree." I haven't seen anything official suggest that 75069 derailed. So is that true or not??

I've seen mutterings on FB that claim that everything's okay "except a bit of bent metal". Very dubious source to speculate from but it could be that 75069 recieved some minor damage.

For interest what is the stopping distance for a light engine at 25mph?

I note from the SVR's "A very British summer" that a vintage bus is giving sightseeing tours around Bridgnorth on Mondays. Presumably, this was rerouted to provide the rail replacement service today.

Their is no one size fits all, their are great variations. In general terms a Steam braked Locos brakes will react to an input slightly quicker than some.

Is there any evidence that the short lived popularity of bogie brakes, prior to WWI, produced any effect other than to complicate maintenance?

The Germans persisted with them until the end of steam, so they must've thought it worthwhile.

Having seen photos shared privately I'd say minor damage would be a fair description, to both loco and track.
No doubt both will be sorted and back up and running again as swiftly as possible.

The amended service is still in place today: trains from Kidderminster to Highley and buses from Upper Arley village to Bridgnorth. Both services are operating to a 1hr 20min frequency, and you have at least 15 minutes to walk between Arley village and station on the shortest change.

Proof if proof were needed that all GWR engines look the same. :)

If you think 1450 looks like 1501, I can recommend a good optician.
