There was a photo of the new cylinder knocking around on Facebook some time ago not long after 46115 was withdrawn, posted by the company that made it. I suspect that photo is long gone now!

Thanks. That was the time! It must have been the summer of 66 I was thinking of, when it stood at the south end of the line, the first loco you could see when you stood on the access road above the turntable.

From an article by the SVR's David Williams in Steam Railway a few years ago. 46115 was bought at Kingmoor by Mr RA Bill, the MD of Bill Switchgear Ltd of Perry Barr in Birmingham, and was the first loco offered to the Severn Valley in preservation. It was declined by then operating superintendent Bill Gillett as being too heavy for the line (the SVR Society had only been launched a few months earlier and re-opening was still some years away). It was eventually destined for the Worth Valley as mentioned above.

In passing, the second loco offered to the SVR and also declined as being 'too far from its native heath and also from the homes of its supporters' was Maunsell 'U' 31618. Third time lucky; the offer of 3205 was accepted and the rest, as the say, is history.

Yes. It was posted on the 35018 thread.
The poster incorrectly stated it was for the MN and caused... well.... Has anyone seen the reenactment of the battle of Pearl Harbour by the Batley Womens guild?

These were the poly patterns from back in 2018 for SG. Not sure if the casting from this has been used in this overhaul or whether it's been decided to get one more overhaul out of the old one.

As the Royal Scot type double chimney was tried on a couple of LNER V2s without any real improvement of performance, what is the likelihood of a double Kylchap improving a Royal Scot?

I’ve never heard a whistle doing that before!

Any ideas what could cause it to be intermittent? Would have expected it to be either jammed shut or open...

As an aside - when I was about 15 I once drove a gorgeous 5” gauge A4 Quicksilver which I seem to remember was built by a chap who fired the real thing regularly - had a lovely sounding real chime whistle. Owner told me to ‘give a toot on the flute’ on my last lap, but the valve wouldn’t shut. Chime whistle blaring, entire park staring at me, red faced and terrified! Had to drop the fire to stop it... Didn’t live that one down

I've heard it before and the cause was something to do with the boiler cladding vibrating slightly and catching the whistle linkage. 5407 climbing up towards Diggle about 13 years ago, probably the Cotton Mill Express, there will be a video on youtube.

There's a flange greaser there, I think, and I've seen many a video of a slip at that precise location.

You would imagine a 4-6-0 to be pretty sure footed, so it must spread quite a bit of grease onto the railhead.

I imagine many steam drivers, especially with Pacifics, might ease off at that point.

Gordon Hodgson who was driving the Scot in my video told me he was always waiting for a slip at that point when on the regulator of any loco he was driving.
