Developer's don't care about flood issues or anything else as long as they can make quick buck, you have only got to see how much they have raked off the tax payer for the help to buy scheme it so profitable they cannot now survive with out it.
There is also the point when well meaning land owners turn their land over to solar panels, the land can then be declared as a brown field site which then opens up all those sites to development, this obsession with turning the country into a concrete jungle with little objection astounds me.

I will allow that I have on occasion been...Er...mildly critical ;) of the Minehead Rail Link Group’s madder statements about the advantages and opportunities of a Minehead - Taunton commuter service.

But I was pleased to see this up on the community noticeboard in my favourite cafe in Williton.

It just goes to show that there is, after all, good in everyone. :D At least the MRLG are still active.

Even if one might think their choice of Network South East livery raises some question about their understanding of the local railways...

Well there is talk of getting rid of the Networker units, so you never know.....

Make it a battery powered unit perhaps?

If I was being churlish, the lack of mention of the WSR (at whose initiative the shuttles have been arranged) on the poster is an unimpressive omission. One might also look at the poster and be misled into thinking thay MRLG had had something to do with bringing about the shuttles.

    But those are churlish thoughts.

Well, the WSR is a heritage railway and NSE livery could be considered "heritage" now. :)

O/T our daughter has bought a 'Cider Sea' map, the wrong side of Taunton but modelling from there to Wells with a 10m rise in sea levels
    http://www.martockgallery.co.uk/bro...avalon?r=browse-by-subject/556/local-interest

A quick look up shows Norton around 30m above sea level.

Object yes but councils' effective power to refuse can sometimes be limited: developers with deep pockets can threaten planning appeals. Should the council lose they may have to pick up the cost, may lose the section 106 planning gain benefits and may lose the ability to negotiate conditions on the development.

When the 11:00 BL diagram is booked for a diesel loco the additional return trip to WN is normally run.
But the Washford and Doniford stops are both cut out to reduce the BA to WN running time allowing the loco time to run around at WN and get back to make the cross with the up steam service at BA.

I believe the MRLG talk of shuttles was aired on NP a while before the WSR folk mentioned any. Admittedly it was a much longer journey suggested by the MRLG but many WSR folk rubbished a shuttle, saying their were no paths to the WSR on the line from Taunton, major costly, engineering would be needed and no platform for a shuttle train existed at Taunton. I am sure other reasons were also quoted.
But there you are, it was possible after all, even if on a much smaller scale.

Regrettably not accurate in almost any way.

MRLG have only ever proposed Minehead to Taunton trains, and have been spretty 'sniffy' about the shuttles.

WSR folk have rubbished weekday peak time / all day trains as proposed by MRLG as the paths at that time on a working day just arent there (Either over the WSR or NFW-TN. That was also the Railnews conclusion.) Engineering is needed for (1) raising the line speed to Minehead, and (2) provide other the 'across all lines' route to/from the WSR at Silk Mills as at present which blocks both the up and down mains for the movement. And that is just that aspect of viability of MRLG's proposed commuter trains. Platform occupancy at peak times in Taunton would also be a problem.

Quite a different thing on a Saturday at 'tourist' times of the day.

    So lets not have 'revisionism'.

    Robin

TV this evening reported that fewer trains will run next year, and more diesel running to save money. This looks serious.

Well I know what I read here about the trains to the WSR from Taunton, however, the following post, 20838, more importantly must be a concern to many supporters.
