Can anyone give a clue on how late the trains run on a gala event please?

Usually about 7pm sometimes when ive done some in past but never all night running as far as i can recall but on the gold timetable last train to pickering is 7:35pm on summertime running days, but with 10 locos in action it could be a late running event fri sat and sun for visitors staying to get a ride behind all rostered locos, ive never been to a N.Y.M.R. gala with this many engines so its hard to say how the timetable will be set.

Having only just picked up on this thread I do wonder if the "gallery" could be satisfied by double-headed trains between Grosmont and Goathland only with the pilot loco returning as an attachment to the next train down the bank.

Trains do also run on the remaining 16 miles of track between Goathland and Pickering.

Yes but the mass audience who always take the same old shots seem incapable of something different. Perhaps we should turn all locos to face north;)

But as I read earlier postings double-heading between Goathland and Pickering causes operating problems hence operate double heading on the section where it has both "value" by adding power to climb the 1:49 gradient and is operationally feasible whilst not increasing running times by too much.

Or double head all trains to Goathland with the pilot tender/ bunker first .
Turning some at Pickering would allow tender first both ways to ensure chimney by the stock for greater onboard entertainment .

It's the allowance for all the stressing carried out in the last few years.

There is 1- 49 in both directions.

I have been behind Gresley when it slipped to a stand in both directions on separate days.

Elsewhere, Peter Best has said that his S160 No.2253 will be staying at the NYMR for the gala so that is another loco to add to the list of those available. That makes the suggested line up:
    8 Lucie
    29
    825
    926 Repton
    1264
    2238
    2253 Omaha
    5428 Eric Treacy
    6023 King Edward II
    6990 Witherslack Hall
    60009 Union of South Africa
    62005
    65894
    76079
    80136
    92134
Personally, I think that a couple of the home fleet won't be available but that is entirely my opinion. It is still four weeks away and lots can happen in that time.

It’s GWR. All the same to me, although I believe one painted blue to distinguish it from the other.

So alot of locos on that list of 15 then top and tailing and double heading one i reckon doing the levisham shuttle some stood in grosmont M.P.D. on different days of the gala and the likes of 5428 76079 1264 maybe 62005 taking turns doing the whitby shuttles. How many locos are allowed to move around in grosmont station and pickering anyone? i know when the goods demo,s go up to goathland station 2 running trains pass up to pickering and down to grosmont in the station loop, and the goods loco waits in the siding for them to clear.

Well I've been watching the Grosmont webcam today and as far as I could tell there were four locos in the station at one point - the class 37 and 76079 topping and tailing a Pickering bound train, Repton on a Whitby bound train and somethingdown in the carriage sidings - and that's just a normal day, there was room for one more in front of the dining train!

That's confusing as in reality world :
45428 and 76079/D7628 on Whitby trains,61264,2253,26038 then 37264 on internal services and 926 in steam by the wherldrop shed.

You are right, it was the class 27 + 76079 and I could have mistaken the Repton for the B1 as it was already well past me when I happened to switch on. Nevertheless, the point remains - and your post confirms - that with 6 assorted engines in steam and two diesels in use as well, it was a busy day at Grosmont!

25 not 27-Blue with TOPS number would ease the identification!
    3 diesels not two.D7628,26038,37264
    5 steam not six.2253,76079,926,61264,45428

I worked all through last night and still haven't had any sleep, so not terribly compos mentis at the moment but I'll book my visit to the well-advertised opticians - but I hope you get the general point! Anyone sitting on the platform at Grosmont would have seen a lot of action for a non-gala day.
