I'd assumed 46115 needed a proper drag test!

That rounds off another spectacular west riding 2019 summer of steam through all iron roads lead to leeds, oh wait there could be the A1 steam loco trusts North britain in october and a few dalesmans to go yet i would love to see a steam excursion transverse the harrogate line again on my wishlist if N.R. was not so strict on the gauging rules, but the wensleydale run from 10A and the waverley tour and 1 dalesman has made my 2019 steam season good and plus no fire risk this season.

Works for testing steam production and output, not so good if the loco on test runs a hot box. . . Then you've got a train load of passengers going no where (or only very slowly going anywhere).

I don't really understand that post, if one (either) runs a hot box dump it in the nearest loop and carry on with the good (adequate power) locomotive.

My point was that a relatively untested loco is a higher failure risk than a tried and tested loco, so routinely using passenger trains for test runs might not be such a good idea. 'dump it in the nearest loop' probably still results in lengthy delays. . .

It's had a test run. This was a mileage accumulation run when I assume WC were pretty confident about it. So a sensible option as I said

Great to see the Guardsman back. I was on it twice in 2012, both round the forth circle and up to Inverness over Drumochter and Slochd. The Guardsman performed superbly on both occassions especially on the HML whilst climbing out of Inverness on the way back. Would love to see BIL up in Scotland but we'll wait and see on that. Anyone know who the crews were yesterday?

I found somewhere cheap this year, but won't be stopping there again in a hurry - kind of place you wipe your feet on way out!

The final 'Waverley' tour of the 2019 season, initially hauled by SR MN No.35018 'British India Line' seen passing Huddleston Grange on the climb to Micklefield. Seen on the return climbing to Cross Gates from Leeds, passing Killingbeck with LMS 7P No.46115 'Scots Guardsman' piloting.
