The pathetic bleats of those who hate the emergence of new locos were shrill and recorded by accident , the arrogance of the individual who announced we all switch of as he walked out into the foto line to decide everyone should follow his command exhibits the worst in hangers on, most of those in a group of 100 fotos of so were day visitors contributing nothing on the day to the railway, it was obvious that the 9f had to work as soon as it emerged.

Yup, "driven 100 miles to watch this drivel", they maybe members ( as I am life etc of many years ) but clearly on the day are giving nothing, there are many linesiders who assume the right when in truth Joe public out for a day with kids gives more.

A strange response to what was a reasonable comment from oldmrheath. I fail to understand how you can assume those that were there 'hate the emergence of new locos', I would think they would all welcome the return of 92134. I welcomed it's appearance but it's about how 92134 was introduced to the operational timetable. Also without asking all individuals whether they have bought tickets I cannot see how you know most of the photographers haven't contributed in some way. You seem to be tarnishing everyone with the same brush. I agree one individual should not impact the rest of the photographers. I was at Moorgates, although away from the main group of photographers. And yes I did have a ticket.

Bit of a long sentence there. I think you're saying someone walked in front of an assembled gallery as the train approached? Which I would agree is very arrogant and inconsiderate regardless of what is hauling the train.

So obvious that the railway stated it would not work during the gala, only pressing it into service to cover for failures of other locos?

Any chance of the 9F working? OK, it's a BR loco so not appropriate to a Wartime Weekend but neither is a blue King or a red S160.

Appropriate traction wouldn’t be too much of a concern as these events are very popular for other, wartime aspects. If we’re going for wartime nostalgia then mk1’s wouldn’t fit the bill and suddenly capacity becomes a bit of an issue... but the thread digresses.

92134 was being restored during the Iraq & Falklands Wars, no? What's the problem :)

In terms of loco fleet the NYMR probably could run a wartime weekend with appropriately liveried locos - Take your pick from the B1, Black 5, S15, T3(Q6) and Repton (if it's back from the GC in time), and the S160 is a very appropriate wartime design if not liveried as such. Makes a change from 5 years or so ago when pretty much everything would have been in BR colours. Far more appropriate than a 1960s Gala I remember attending at the GCR which featured Tornado in 1940s Apple Green and Leander in 1930s LMS Red! I also remember a South Devon Railway 1940s weekend which had Khaki Liveried 5322 visiting from Didcot, but then 3205 in BR Green and 5526 and 5786 in BR Black, although the latter did have a GWR Decal applied to one side!

But as has already been pointed out, the 1940s weekend is not just about 'let's run all the locos that are wearing the right combination of paints as they were during WWII). It's about remembering and educating the public on the role the railways played in contributing to the War effort. The interesting challenge for events such as this is to do this in a way that educates, but doesn't unnecessarily glorify the deeply horrific realities of war. Having never been to a NYMR war event I couldn't comment on how they do at that. My only war time event experience was the aforementioned SDR 1940s weekend which (as much as I can remember) was effectively just a 2 train service with a number of 1940s road vehicles on display at Buckfastleigh. I also remember a late running train being explained as "A forced delay due to the threat of air raids" which certainly put a smile on my face!

You'll that the T3 [is 901] hasn't run in over a decade and were LNER Q7s. When it came out of service the owners [the NRM] took her back and she's based at I think the Head of Steam Museum at Darlington North Road. The 0-8-0 you're thinking of is a T2/Q6 No 2238

The T3/Q7 is indeed at Head of Steam. At least she's under cover...

I don't think this is the first time you have rightly corrected a silly mistake I have made regarding loco classes! I did indeed mean the T2/Q6!
