We seem to have lost the Pacers on the Furness line, but the cancellations continue!

The Alderley/Crewe to Manchester service isn't bad and we get a mixture of pacers, 150s,156s,319s and 323s

185's are the norm. on Leeds to York.............or if the gods look favourably on you.......a 68 on a 5 car Nova 3. There's a few of them now out and about.
Platform 15 for non stop, very frequent.

We shall see, we will be quite baggaged up as I am taking her to York Races for our Anniversary (it was actually last weekend but I buggered my dates up and was off fell walking with my mates - thus a gesture was required!) so I hope its not heaving!

We stayed perfectly dry on the Saturday and both ended well up on the wagers so a good day was had by all!

Also travel was achieved without Pacer involvement, the only marginally low point being a 150 sprinter from Carnforth to Leeds!

In the piddling rain yesterday we discovered the York Tap, which was nice, could have stayed there all afternoon!

For how long ? I thought that Pacers were banned from the route through being under-powered hence the use of Sprinter units.

Aye, and Northern's top man was on local TV news last night and he confirmed it. :(
The poor fella hadn't a chance, I felt a bit sorry for him, he blamed everybody except the cat and he was trying to justify the unjustifiable
But fair do's to him, he had 'the bottle' to come on TV himself and not send a minion.

I take it you have some practical suggestions for the proper psychiatric care of poor Sally Carter, mentioned in the article? :)

Aaah Sally, if she wants a Pacer set she can have one and be happy, I can fix it for her (for a small fee;)), there's a selection to choose from parked in Huddersfield station. We'd need some booster batteries to get them started, they've been there quite a while.:D

I think this pacer hating has become a bandwagon which everyone is jumping on to. They're not fantastic, I know, but they're not as bad as everyone is making our either, over short distances I don't get what the problem is, they're better than the metrolink trams in my opinion and I'd rather have a trip on one than the service cancelled

OK Mr Cartman, how long do you think they should be allowed to go on for? IMO they are worn out heaps of misery and in this day and age to inflict them on the travelling public (a public who pay a lot of money for season tickets) is an insult. They were bought 35 years ago, as a stop gap solution, they are falling to pieces and Northern are still running some on some long distance jobs. Try Carlisle to Leeds on a 2 car 142, standing room only. They are worn out, well past their 'use by date', a government minister stood at the H of C Despatch box and said that they would ALL be retired/gone by December 31st

I detest pacers as a long journey on one caused me to have an epileptic seizure. Good enough cause?

I think you can recognise that they've done decent service while also noting that they were an imperfect but necessary fix to begin with and are now long past their sell-by dates.
