Can't say I've ever heard of Alexander Chaplin & Co., Glasgow, before.

In 'British Steam Locomotive Builders', by James W. Lowe (every home should have one!), Alexander Chaplin, of Cranstonhill Engine Works, Port Street, Glasgow, built vertical boiler engines between the 1860's and early C20th. One of their products, named Chaplin, was supplied to Southampton Docks in 1865. Others went to Denmark. The firm moved to Helen Street, Govan c.1890 and ceased building in 1930.
