1961 set of dies

    Hi all, recently lost my father in law and came across the following in the mass of stuff stored in one of his many sheds! A few people have said they may be of interest to railway enthusiasts. There are 2 sets and they look like they have sat untouched since 1961, the date on the invoice. Wondered if anyone could give some guidance as to what to do with them? They are made by Lyndon?

    Depends if you want to sell them or donate them. I would think that any heritage railway workshop would gladly take them off your hands.

    Thanks Keith, would like to sell them if possible but for a fraction of what dies of this size are going for on EBay. Thought it would be nice if someone was interested in them as a set with the age of them rather than break them up into sizes.

    There is no big value in them as carbon steel items. Most folk use high speed steel tooling now.

    I don't think you'll get a lot of money from trying to sell them. How about donating them and trying to cadge a free train ride for the donation! Incidentally, the age of them makes no difference - they are a consumable item, not a display item. Sorry!

    Not sure I completely agree with you there - someone is selling the biggest set of 3 taps (1 1/2” - 8) on EBay for £115 and have sold 793 sets!! This has 4 sets and accompanying hand tools and I’m looking for around £150 for the lot
