Without knowing the full facts, I think it's unfair to label the crew (who would fit the headboard) as lazy.

If not on the chimney lamp bracket it would have been better to use the fireman's side bracket. All LSWR engines had the smokebox brackets moved inboard on to the door to avoid head signal discs getting in the drivers line of sight.

I'm sure all offers to fit headboards correctly will be greatly received.

I'm sure no one who paid to travel on the train had their day ruined by a wonky headboard.

    Its steam heat time!
Always cheers me up as it makes it all much more atmospheric. 4 minutes to go before the T9 departs with the 1000 to Norden.
Also high regard for the driver who had to cope with some very bad rail conditions this morning.

The T9 is in service today hauling 4 green coaches. It looks the bees knees as there's no Pullman observation car.

2 locos in steam tomorrow as there is a dining train. <BJ>

The Swanage Railway has now submitted its application for a Non-Mainline Safety Certificate to the Office of Rail and Roads (ORR)

This application for a Non-Mainline Safety Certificate covers SRC operations over Network Rail controlled infrastructure from the boundary of the SRC infrastructure at Worget Farm (Bridge 2) and Wareham Station.

Why is it "non-mainline"? What does that mean?

I would assume it means they are not planning to run trains that start and finish on the mainline. They only need to run a short distance over NR tracks so presumably the rules and regulations are a bit different.

Try understanding the ORR rules etc by looking at https://orr.gov.uk/rail/health-and-...exclusions-from-mainline-railway-requirements
There is a link on that page to an approved list of transport systems that are excluded from the mainline railway. You will find on page 13 of that list, something that might help, but my explanation is probably only half the story

My interpretation is that it relates to a 25 mph heritage operation (albeit on NR metals) as opposed to a ‘proper’ mainline service.

I have tried to understand item 4 "heritage vehicles that operate on both the mainline railway and complies with national safety rules" and failed. It isn't intelligible English. I surmise that it may have been meant to say something like "heritage vehicles that operate on both the mainline railway and other railways and complies that comply with national safety rules"; but even that wouldn't make such sense, because it would mean that these vehicles are exempt from national safety rules if they comply with national safety rules.

But they will start and finish on the mainline - at Wareham.

The short distance is irrelevant. They will be running over a high speed electrified main line, so the rules and regulations are no less stringent.

Probably not the stand by loco for the driver experience tomorrow then! At least the Bulleid keeps the rain out, which just after this one departed tried to recreate the great flood
