That is truly a sight to behold! Hopefully this beauty will be deposited somewhere visible over the weekend [subtle hint].

Not too accessible, mind or I'm taking her home! :)

I was told at recent Gala that 4953 would be visiting the Nene Valley Railway when fully tested at GCR - not sure when this might be however?

I should perhaps have been more specific, as I was aware of Witherslack's black phase in the 90s - When was the last time we saw an "unmodified" Hall in black?

I'm fairly certain Pitchford Hall is the first in preservation.

Technically that’s a Modified Hall. Don’t think unless anyone can correct me there has been a 49xx in black.

Haha yes I hadn’t read on in the thread as I said before I’m quite sure it’s a preservation first.

According to the latest SR " Discussions are in progress for the DSR to hire Pitchford Hall for a 2 year period, starting early next year".

Does anyone know whether 4953 will feature in this weekend's events at GCR?

As stated on the EOR website, 4953 is potentially making a brief return to North Weald ahead of any hire being discussed. I believe she is due to arrive soon which would imply expected use on the Santas, but that could all have changed since I was last there.

Interesting. I would have thought that with 5239 returning to action, 2253 arriving, as well as 7827 and 75014, the DSR would have had sufficient locomotive availability for the next year or so until 7827 bows out in 2021 and would not have been interested in hiring another locomotive. Is 4953 owned by the EOR itself or by a group based there? I would have thought it would have been a more valuable addition to the fleet at North Weald than at Paignton, knowing what the fleets currently are
