I wonder if there is a case with all Heritage Raiklway share issues that they should revert to - in this case the WSRA on (say) the holders 90th birthday unless the holder contacts them to confirm otherwise or they are passed on under the terms of a will & the executors arrange for this to happen?

[QUOTE=", while you can put a pannier through its paces on the WSR,
for the bigger loco's surely the only place where you can experience what they were meant to do, and working hard is on the main line.[/QUOTE]

I disagree in the strongest terms - ALL locos work hard going up the banks on the WSR.

... and I suspect that is why many executors end up gifting the shares from an estate to one of the support charities (e.g. WSRA). Better of course if the decedent gifts the share in such a way in their will.
The law AFAIK makes no distinction as to the profits a company may or may not make and hence to their distribution. However this is a complex area of the law and legal /tax advice would be required. I don't actually remember if the company articles are silent on this matter or not. Perhaps academic as the company has never, AFAIK, declared a dividend in any case.

    Aldfort,

    Dividends

Back in 2002 (22nd of June) the shareholders (members) of the plc gave up all rights to dividends and to receiving any share of the plc's assets in the event of the company being wound up, they also gave up any right to reverse that decision. The plc's Articles of Association details this in section 161.

If you wish to read them on an evening that you cannot get to sleep follow the link below to Companies House, I hope works ok as it is rather long.

    Andy.

Edit. Go to the "Companies House Beta" web site and search "West Somerset Railway plc", then click on "Filing history", 3rd item down is the articles, click on the blue "view pdf" on the right.

Professional hat on: you can see from reading that link that it is a temporary one which will expire - rather, the security token within it will. I bet it won't work if you try it in an hour's time

(I see Companies House are happy for us all to see they use Amazon for their web hosting - I generally advise clients to conceal that sort of thing if possible, even though it leads to a bit more work)

Edit: it's already stopped working - that timeout parameter must be in seconds! I have to admit I don't have the S3 API memorised

But then it wouldn't be a share, surely?

If they are inherited, whether under a will or not, then the executor(s) or administrator(s) should always contact the company to say what they would like to do with the shares. The real issue is where they do not realise that such small shareholdings are part of the estate.

Maybe to you but probably not to the folk who are working tirelessly on King Edward 1.

It was good to see a pair of Black 5s storm out of Bristol this morning and later at speed over Llanvihangel summit. It really is difficult to compare a preserved railway with a main line operation. <BJ>

  17. Mention of a limited-seat Pullman Dining Service on selected dates. Is this the return of Quantock Pullman, exactly 40 years after it was introduced? If so, which Pullman car(s)? Is Lydia still on the manor after all? Fascinating.

So if you don't think that share issues are a good idea, how would you go about raising a couple of million pounds?
