Was Tornado 'wintering' on the Wensleydale railway when the Tynsider was originally announced?

Did ask the group if they were the reason for the change to the train as it would suit them to have the loco up north. Was told that was not the case.

Indeed along with the miles behind Number 9 this was again a reason for booking the tour in its original incarnation - call it unfinished business after her failure when we were aboard the infamous Ebor Flyer. Maybe fingers crossed then.

I think that KGX to Newcastle and back in a day was just not possible hence the revision. Don't think it was ever planned for Tornado to return to London.

From what I remember from the original plan, it was 60163 KGX-YRK and return and 60009 YRK-NCL and return

I have just located the RTC Brochure 2019 2nd Edition and what you remember is correct.

It was over 530 miles of steam which was why so many of us booked it

Where's Mazeppa posted this on 4th June.

The published pricing for the Tynesider could make this the bargain of the year with the early booking discount offer (pre-July 1st) of £25 off the quoted price of £119 standard return announced in today's email. I'm not sure where the headline price on the RTC website "From £99" comes from, but £94 for 536 miles of East Coast Pacific power has got to be the best ever, and that's not taking account of its sheer rarity value. In recent times, most of the out-and-back in a day excursions to Tyneside have involved some sort of modern traction support to make the length of the days outing workable. I guess the penalty on this occasion just had to be the early start.

So, does this excursion suggest that the tectonic plates that have defined the alignment of Owners-TOCs-Promoters are beginning to shift slightly/ slowly/ surely??

Damn right, that's a good day out (and a hard day for the crews (all) involved).
    Top marks to all involved.

E-ticket received earlier today confirms the plan is for Tornado to haul both legs. Will be an early start on Saturday for all - see you on-board.

Should be good if Tornado does as well as last Saturday hopefully this time with decent coal.

Good news about Tornado doing both legs and thanks should go to the A1 Trust and support crew to agree to do the 2nd leg as well.

This'll be my first mainline run behind Tornado and first run since 2013 I think, as well as my first steam out of Kings Cross and up the ECML. I think this may be the earliest railtour I've got as well but should be worth it.

So, will it be pure steam tomorrow or not ? I Wouldn't be asking the question if this was a DB operation. So far this December everything seems to have a tail gunner !

Still no paths in RTT for light engine moves at King's Cross, so doesn't look like it will be a solo trip.

Do not think the SD trip to Lincoln did and that was a WCRC job. Probably depends on the current NR view in propelling moves to and from Holgate sidings. Sometimes they seem acceptable, others not. I do not understand the logic myself.
