You would think a A4 would be more of attraction, than whatever it displaced.

However if space is an issue, that prevents that ever happening.

IMHO, a win win for both parties, if it could happen.

That's hardly an insurmountable problem. The Turkish 8F is continuing to raise funds for the purpose returning it to steam as soon as possible. Also some exhibits are on loan. There are various coaches and goods wagons. Is the Glasgow subway coach still at the Museum? The idea that if the opportunity to display the iconic A4 at Boness materialised it would be turned down seems commercially and aesthetically absurd. Having said that I do hope Mr Cameron succeeds in his primary objective of housing 60009 in his own museum.

What do you suggest is displaced? Many of the exhibits are sole survivors whereas A4s can be seen elsewhere.

its the guys loco , he could paint it pink if he wants , he could scrap it to, if its to be retired to a farm somewhere so be it

lucky its not a dog going to a farm we know how that ends up

end of the day no amount of frothin here will change what he want to do with his locomotive

The problem is that what he wants to do and others (e.g council planners) will allow him to do are 2 different things hence the third option of what others want him to do !

If the offer came to exhibit 60009 at Bo'ness I would not advocate rejecting it. I do think that it is necessary to point out that this would not necessarily be a painless placement. Are coaches, goods wagons and 4' gauge subway cars inferior exhibits? We have some very dedicated and hard working volunteers who have done tremendous work on non Steam exhibits. I wouldn't be happy to tell them their hard work has been bumped.

If Mr Cameron decided that Bo'ness was the place for 60009 to go (his choice) I hope that a way can be found to accommodate her that does not sideline lots of great work that has gone on with less glamorous vehicles

we could of course morph this thread with the WSR on in the hope that it will go round so fast as to clear brexit and global warming

I do sometimes whether it's worth bothering with this forum... It's a bit like Camra members telling us what and where we're going wrong with our beer. You really feel why bother?

Of course it's Mr. Cameron's engine and he can do what he likes, but as an enthusiast I will be grateful if 60009 ends up on display where we can all get up close and/or take photographs.

No, as it is so new, it will be updated as things change to justify its existence. As 60009 is slated for withdrawal in a few months, it will provide a snapshot of operating historic steam locomotives on the mainline at this point in the second millennium.

IMHO the best way for us all to get up close and/or take photographs is for the loco to continue touring Britain on the main line. <BJ>

I'm sure we've all gone through this many times...
Personally for me all Steam Locomotives are living and breathing, it's the sight, sound and spectacle, in steam and at rest they are alive, but to see an A4 (or any Loco) streaking past with the Chime (whistle) blaring is hair raising and a total attack on all of our senses.
But...it is not for us to decide, it is up to Mr Cameron to decide what he would like to do with his locomotive - End.

Ultimately as long as she is reasonably accessible wherever she ends up and reasonably protected from the elements are the important considerations for me.

The thing that gets my goat is people upthread essentially saying how dare you have an opinion! Why allow new members if all you want is an echo chamber????

The End.....? [Ming the Merciless cackles ominously]

Well 60009 will just become another 60022 but if J.C. passed away in the distant future would that alter the the ownership or what happens to 60009 whoever it is inherited to could anyone on here put a answer to to this question maybe?

As a Norf' London lad from the 40's thousands of hours were spent on the G.N. main line and frequent visits to "Top Shed" until steam finally bowed out.
Then in '64 I made a pilgrimage to Clapham Museum to see a greatly missed frien. The restoration of the D class and the J69 were magnificent, and then there she was resplendent in blue, I walked up to her all was silent no sounds of expansion or contraction no wisps of steam from the drain cocks or that wonderful chime whistle, no heat from the firebox as I walked past, no drips of water from the injectors.
I went home early with memories of happier times.
